There is a bone stuck in the throat. Tips

When we eat meat, a lot of it contains bones, such as muscles, duck meat, fish meat, etc. If we are not careful during the eating process, small bones may be swallowed by mistake, causing them to get stuck in the throat. This situation is very critical and must be dealt with in time, otherwise it may be life-threatening. So, what are some tips for dealing with a bone stuck in the throat? Let’s take a look below.

Home first aid for foreign bodies in the throat:

The pharynx is divided into three parts: nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx. Foreign objects in the nasopharynx and laryngopharynx must be diagnosed and treated by a doctor. Foreign objects in the oropharynx, such as fish bones, bone spurs, and suture needles, can easily pierce the tonsils or other nearby tissues in the oropharynx.

If a foreign body occurs in the throat, you should stop eating immediately and minimize swallowing. Use your fingers or chopsticks to stimulate the posterior pharyngeal wall to induce vomiting to help expel the foreign body from the throat.

If this method is ineffective, the rescuer can ask the patient to open his mouth wide, illuminate the inside of the mouth with a flashlight or desk lamp, press the tongue down with chopsticks or the handle of a spoon with a little force, and ask the patient to make an "ah" sound at the same time. The entire condition of the pharynx can be clearly seen. If foreign objects are found, they can be clamped with long tweezers or chopsticks and gently pulled out.

When handling the injury, be sure to face sufficient sunlight or light, and the light should shine directly on the oropharynx. Ask the patient to open his mouth and breathe quietly. It is best to use a tongue depressor or two chopsticks to gently press down the tongue so that the pharyngeal isthmus is clearly exposed. If it is a fishbone, one end often pierces the tissue, and the other end is exposed and appears white, so it can be removed with tweezers.

For foreign objects that are located deep and difficult to explore and remove, do not poke or pull them randomly to avoid causing new trauma. At this time, you should go to the hospital immediately and see a doctor.

How to remove foreign objects from the esophagus?

The commonly used method is: the doctor uses a metal piece - an esophagoscope, slowly inserts it into the patient's esophagus, and then inserts a special surgical forceps into the metal tube. The foreign body is removed with the forceps, and the patient can return to normal. This method will cause certain pain to the patient. In order to alleviate the discomfort of patients, a flexible optical fiber endoscope has been recently developed for removing foreign bodies, which is very effective.
