What's wrong with brown eyes

Normally, the eyes appear brown, which is a manifestation of the sclera. The sclera is a soft tissue inside the eye, mainly composed of three types of tissues: the upper sclera, the parenchyma and the lower sclera. It plays a certain protective role for the human eyes. If you use your eyes improperly or do not pay attention to hygiene, it will cause sclera inflammation to a certain extent. Below, we will introduce you to the relevant knowledge about scleral inflammation in detail!

1. Basic Introduction

The sclera is the white part of the outer periphery of the eyeball. It is the outermost fibrous membrane of the eye and also a soft tissue. The sclera is commonly known as the white of the eye. It occupies the posterior 5/6 of the fibrous membrane of the eyeball and about 30% of the total area.

2. Main features

The sclera is the outermost layer of the eyeball wall. It is composed of dense collagen and elastic fibers. It has a tough structure, is opaque, has a hard texture and is magnetic white. There are few blood vessels, which are connected to the cornea in front and to the optic nerve dura mater sheath in the back. The surface of the sclera is covered by the Tenon's fascia and the conjunctiva. The sclera includes the superficial sclera, scleral parenchyma, and brown-black layer. The surface sclera is rich in blood vessels and is prone to allergic lesions, while the deep layer of the sclera has few blood vessels and nerves and is not prone to disease. The back five-sixths of the outer membrane of the eyeball is the white, tough sclera, which serves a protective function.

The sclera has a certain degree of elasticity and the eye is a sphere. If the sclera loses its elasticity and becomes hard, the eye will easily become deformed. A common problem caused by deformation is myopia in adolescents. Therefore, comprehensive management is needed for myopia among teenagers. Not only should they have the correct reading and writing posture, which requires one fist, one foot, and one inch, but they should also have good nutrition and adequate calcium. The same is true for presbyopia in the elderly, which is also caused by the hardening of the sclera and deformation of the eyeball. If you start supplementing calcium in middle age, your eyes will not become presbyopia so early.

3. Basic composition

From outside to inside, it is divided into: ① upper sclera; ② parenchyma; ③ lower sclera. The hard outer shell, mainly composed of elastic fibers and other tissues, protects the eyeball.

4. The incidence of scleritis

The sclera is a tissue with few cells and blood vessels and is mostly composed of collagen. Its surface is covered by the bulbar conjunctiva and bulbar fascia and has no direct contact with the external environment, so it rarely gets sick. According to statistics from most scholars, its incidence rate only accounts for about 0.5% of the total number of eye disease patients. Due to the collagenous nature of the basic components of the sclera, its pathological process is slow and the resulting collagen disorder is difficult to repair. The eyeball is the "window" of collagen, so scleritis is often the ocular manifestation of systemic connective tissue disease.
