The harm of long-term gum bleeding

The harm of long-term gum bleeding

If our teeth are healthy, then we can see pink gums. But if we suffer from diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis, our gums will bleed for a long time. Generally speaking, bleeding gums can cause great harm to us, but not everyone knows it. Today we will introduce the dangers of long-term gingival bleeding, and we hope everyone can pay attention to it.

The dangers of bleeding gums are as follows:

1. Cause digestive system diseases: If inflammation occurs in the mouth, some pathogenic bacteria will be swallowed into the stomach along with saliva, and then multiply in large numbers, causing gastrointestinal diseases such as indigestion, gastritis, and enteritis.

2. Cause respiratory diseases: Since the oral cavity is located upstream of the respiratory tract, when periodontitis occurs in the oral cavity, pathogenic bacteria can easily "swim" to the respiratory tract, leading to respiratory tract infection and inducing lung inflammation, such as pharyngitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis, etc.

3. Impact on blood sugar control: Periodontal tissue infection will affect endocrine metabolism and lead to poor blood sugar control. In addition, periodontitis is also one of the main complications of diabetes. The two diseases affect each other, and improper treatment of either side will lead to worsening of the condition.

4. Impact on pregnancy: Studies have shown that if a pregnant woman suffers from periodontal disease, the probability of having a premature baby is 7.5 times that of a normal pregnant woman, because harmful bacteria in the mouth will reach the placenta with the mother's blood, leading to chronic inflammation of the fetal membrane and increased inflammatory amniotic fluid. Inflammation mediates increased contraction of the uterine muscle, thereby increasing the risk of premature birth.

5. Increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases: The impact of periodontal disease on the cardiovascular system has long been confirmed by many medical research institutes at home and abroad. The risk of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and cerebral stroke in patients with periodontal disease is higher than that of healthy people. This is mainly because the bacterial infection of periodontal disease can directly act on the cardiovascular system. Chronic inflammation leads to vascular endothelial cell lesions, which can easily induce platelet aggregation and adhesion, leading to thrombosis or atherosclerosis, thereby affecting the cardiovascular system.

Things to note after bleeding gums:

1. Brush your teeth frequently. You need to brush your teeth at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Rinse your mouth after meals. If there is bleeding while brushing your teeth, you can add salt to warm water to rinse your mouth to play a certain anti-inflammatory role. Be sure to avoid the bleeding area and not brush it, as this will only cause more and more plaque to accumulate in that area and make the inflammation more and more serious.

2. Refuse to smoke. The amount of smoking per day is positively correlated with the severity of periodontal disease. The more you smoke per day and the longer you smoke, the more serious the periodontal disease will be. To prevent periodontal disease, you should quit smoking in time.

3. Pay attention to your diet and eat less spicy, fried, barbecued and other greasy foods. It is also recommended to eat less high-sugar foods or high-sugar drinks.

4. Go to the dental department for regular dental check-ups. It is recommended that everyone have their teeth cleaned every six months to a year to remove oral plaque and tartar. Women who are planning to become pregnant must go to the dental department for a comprehensive oral examination during the pregnancy preparation period. If there are any problems, they should be treated as soon as possible.
