Why do I spit out acid

Why do I spit out acid

If we eat some unclean food or feel nauseous, we often vomit acid. As we all know, acid water is a liquid secreted by our stomach that can consume food. We will only vomit acid when there is a problem with our stomach and intestines. Generally speaking, if you vomit acid frequently, it is likely that you have a gastrointestinal disease, and you should get checked and treated in time.

When acid rises from the stomach and is swallowed immediately, it is called acid vomiting; when it is vomited out without being swallowed, it is called acid vomiting. Generally speaking, acid vomiting refers to the symptom of vomiting acid water. Mild cases are also called heartburn. It is often seen with stomach pain, but it can also occur alone. This disease is mostly caused by internal stagnation of liver fire and disharmony of stomach qi; it can also be caused by spleen and stomach deficiency and coldness, which cannot transport and transform qi.

Symptom classification

1. Cold syndrome: intermittent vomiting of acid, chest and abdominal distension, foul-smelling belching, salivation, preference for hot food, cold limbs, fatigue, loose stools, pale red tongue, thin white fur, and a wiry and slippery pulse. The treatment is to warm the middle and dispel cold, harmonize the stomach and reduce acid, and warm and nourish the spleen and stomach. White snail shells, corrugated seeds, etc. can be added to inhibit acid and soothe the stomach.

2. Heat syndrome: occurs when vomiting acid, belching with a foul smell, fullness in the stomach, foul-smelling stools, dry mouth and thirst, or irritability, swelling and pain in the flanks, red tongue, thick yellow tongue coating, and a rapid and stringy pulse. The treatment is suitable for relieving the liver and harmonizing the stomach, and using bitter and pungent herbs to promote downward movement.

Excessive stomach acid

1. Chronic gastritis: It is mainly caused by the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus, which irritates the esophageal mucosa and causes inflammation.

2. Gastric ulcer: Excessive gastric acid can cause the gastric mucosa to be digested and corroded by gastric acid, resulting in perforation of the stomach and intestines (which we often call gastrointestinal ulcer).

3. Reflux esophagitis: When gastric acid increases and the gastric mucosa is damaged, edema and bleeding will occur. Then, acid-related diseases such as gastritis, peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, etc. will occur, stomach health will be damaged, food digestion and absorption will be affected, and human health will be difficult to guarantee.

4. Duodenal ulcer: Excessive gastric acid will cause corrosive effects in the stomach, resulting in acid swallowing, nausea, and vomiting, and may even lead to serious consequences such as gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer, which cannot be ignored.

Disease prevention

First of all, you should eat in moderation, but avoid eating cold, raw, sour, spicy or fried foods, in order to protect your spleen and stomach; you should pay attention to regulating your emotions and eliminating the factors that cause illness due to the seven emotions.

Disease treatment

Excessive gastric acid will cause corrosive effects in the stomach, resulting in acid swallowing, nausea, and vomiting, and may even lead to serious consequences such as gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers, which cannot be ignored.

The medical treatment is generally to take alkaline drugs, such as baking soda, but the neutralizing effect is only temporary, and soon gastric acid will be secreted excessively again. If alkaline drugs are used repeatedly to neutralize the reaction, it will cause a large amount of gastric acid to be secreted, which is tantamount to adding fuel to the fire. In addition, some people add licorice juice to drink, and it is found that taking too much licorice juice will have side effects of increased blood pressure and increased urine volume, so it is better not to do so. Here are some safer therapies.

According to the Materia Medica, black tea "can stimulate appetite, strengthen the spleen and aid digestion", and has the effect of harmonizing and astringing excessive acid secretion. Green tea is very suitable for people with mild heartburn.

Milk is the most suitable food for this disease. It is better to eat rice porridge and wheat porridge together, which can indeed inhibit the production of acid water.
