White clothes often turn yellow after being worn for a long time. You can soak them in a solution containing indigo and rinse them, and they will be as white as new.

Notice

Do not soak in colored rice water to prevent staining.

Yellowed silk clothing can also be rinsed with lemon juice or light citric acid to remove the yellow stains, and finally rinsed with clean water.

Cleaning Unknown Stains from Clothing

In daily life, there are often some stains of unknown origin on clothes. After discovering them, we can't remember where they came from, so we often can't find the right medicine. Therefore, it is more effective to use more general cleaning methods.

1. Stains on white clothes

You can mix 4 parts of 10% ammonia water, 1 part of soda (sodium carbonate), 2 parts of high-quality white soap, 4 parts of alcohol and 100 parts of water. Dip a cloth in the mixture to wet the stain, wipe until the stain is removed, and then rinse with clean water.

2. Stains on any fabric

They can be wiped with a mixture of 5 parts 10% ammonia water, 3 parts acetone and 20 parts alcohol soap solution. You can also wipe it with a mixture of 1 part 90% alcohol, 1 part ether, and 8 parts pure turpentine.

T-shirt cleaning and maintenance

A good T-shirt must be soft and elastic, breathable and cool to wear. When washing, turn the entire T-shirt inside out and avoid rubbing the patterned side. Try to wash it by hand instead of using a dryer. When hanging clothes to dry, do not pull the collar to prevent deformation. Remember to wash and iron your clothes carefully when the seasons change. You should understand the material of the clothes before handling them so that you will not damage your favorite clothes during the washing and ironing process.

Cotton fabrics

1. Vinegar will corrode cotton fabrics. Therefore, when acidic substances such as juice stain cotton fabrics, it is best to treat them with clean water immediately to avoid the stains staying for too long and becoming difficult to remove.

2. Alkali is not easy to damage cotton fabrics, so you can use a weak alkaline detergent with strong cleaning power.

3. Sunlight will cause oxidation of cotton fabrics, turning white cotton fabrics yellow and brittle. Some cotton dyes are particularly sensitive to sunlight and can easily fade when overexposed to the sun, especially blue, purple, and pink fabrics. Be especially careful and turn them over to dry in the sun.

4. Light-colored cotton clothes will gradually turn yellow after being washed for a long time. You can add detergent to the water and boil them for 20 to 30 minutes, then rub them with clean water to restore their original appearance.

5. The temperature for ironing cotton fabrics should be around 180 degrees. Since cotton fabrics are not easy to iron flat when they are completely dry, it is best to spray some water on them to allow the moisture to penetrate evenly before ironing, which can achieve twice the result with half the effort.

synthetic fiber

Synthetic fibers such as NYLON, polyester, and acrylic have different characteristics and require different cleaning and maintenance methods.

1. Nylon clothing is not easy to fade but easy to stain. When washing, be sure to separate it from other dark-colored clothing to avoid staining.

2. When washing nylon clothes, use a neutral detergent and avoid using hot water. Nylon clothes dry easily after washing and do not need to be tumble dried.

3. Use low temperature, about 140 degrees Celsius or below, to iron nylon clothes.

Tips to prevent clothes from fading in summer:

(1) When drying clothes using the reverse drying method, turn the clothes inside out so that the inside of the clothes face the sun and the outside of the clothes face the shade.

(2) When washing synthetic fiber clothes with additives, add some salt to the water. When washing high-quality clothes, add a small amount of alum to the water to avoid or reduce the fading of the clothes.

(3) When washing colored fabrics using the acid-washing method, adding 1 to 2 spoons of vinegar to the detergent can also prevent the clothes from fading.

Tips for drying clothes

(1) It is best not to expose clothes to the sun. They should be hung in a cool and ventilated place until they are half dry, and then put in the sun with weaker sunlight to protect the color and wearing life of the clothes.

(2) Pay attention to the wind direction when drying clothes. Due to the serious urban air pollution in recent years, especially in the downwind areas near factory areas, the air often contains a lot of dust. If this phenomenon is ignored, it is easy for clothes to be stained with dust, affecting the wearing effect.

(3) When drying clothes, do not wring them too dry. Instead, dry them with some water and use your hands to flatten the lapels, collars, sleeves, etc. of the clothes. This way, the clothes will remain flat and wrinkle-free when dried.

Storage methods and ironing tips

(1) Storage method

Natural and man-made fiber clothing should be hung.

To avoid insect infestation, use mothballs. Wrap the mothballs in paper bags and separate them from clothing to prevent chemical reactions between clothing and mothballs.

(2) Ironing skills

A: Things to prepare before ironing: (Irons are divided into upright steam irons and household irons)

1). First place the ironing board on a flat surface.

2) Check that the ironing board is covered with a heat shield.

3) Is the temperature of the iron suitable for the material of the garment (refer to the washing water mark before ironing)

4) Understand clearly what temperature the garment is suitable for; most garments can be steamed, but steam is not suitable for

Used for sticky parts.

5) For clothes that are easy to reflect light (mirror-like), use an iron heat shield (or a cloth to cover it) to prevent the fibers of the clothes from being damaged.

6) The water storage capacity of the iron should be moderate, not too full, otherwise there will be excess water leaking into the clothes, causing stains on the clothes.

7) After the iron is put into water, do not place it flat, but slightly tilt it upwards, otherwise it will leak.

8) The temperature of the iron should be adjusted slowly from low to high until it reaches the temperature suitable for the garment.

Note: Do not use an iron on sticky areas, such as the front of a suit, collar, etc.

B: Common mistakes when ironing:

1) The lapel line of the garment is not ironed properly (shirt)

2) The lapel of the coat is not properly ironed

3) Wrinkles appear on the top of the sleeves after hanging, mainly because the appropriate sleeve ironing tools are not used.

4) The trouser bone is not in the middle (the ironing was not done at the right position)

C: Things to note after ironing:

1) Pour out all the water in the iron to avoid long-term water storage and the precipitation of stains in the iron.

2) Remove the heat shield from the iron.

D: How to repair scalded clothes

1) If the clothes are ironed to a slight mirror finish (mostly occurs in dark-colored clothes), you can use steam to restore them to normal. If the situation is more serious, you can use a small amount of talcum powder on the surface of the clothes. After five minutes, adjust the iron to steam temperature and use a cloth to iron the clothes. The clothes will return to their original appearance.

(Note: When using steam, do not let the iron touch the clothes directly. Keep it a little distance away from the clothes and spray the steam towards the mirrored area to restore it to normal.)

------When the cotton fabric is not severely scorched, sprinkle some fine salt and rub it gently.

------Silk: Use a little baking soda, mix with water to make a thin paste, apply it on the scorch marks and they will disappear.
