What to do if your face is swollen after tooth extraction

What to do if your face is swollen after tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is a common thing, but many people will experience swollen face after tooth extraction. This is because local damage is caused during tooth extraction, which will cause bleeding, swelling, and pain. Some people will also experience huge fluctuations in blood pressure and pulse after tooth extraction. Therefore, there are some things that need to be paid attention to during tooth extraction. When your face is swollen after tooth extraction, you can choose some methods to reduce swelling.

Method 1:

The gauze or cotton ball on the wound after tooth extraction needs to be bitten for about half an hour to 45 minutes before spitting it out. If there is saliva when biting the gauze, please swallow it normally. If there is still slight bleeding after removing the gauze, keep the gauze aside for 1 hour. If it still doesn’t work, please contact your doctor again. A small amount of blood in your saliva is normal for 24 hours. Don't be alarmed if your saliva is slightly bloody, but if the blood continues to appear, please contact your doctor.

Method 2:

After tooth extraction, you can rest in a semi-recumbent position, but do not lie flat on your back. Do not take a hot bath immediately to avoid bleeding from the wound.

Method 3:

You can eat or drink after 2 hours of tooth extraction. You can eat liquid or semi-liquid food, but avoid eating hard or overheated food. It must be noted that soft food should be eaten after 2 hours; food should not be overheated, and chewing with the side where the tooth was extracted should be avoided. Otherwise, if you do not pay attention to the above points before the blood clot is completely organized, it may cause the blood clot to be destroyed and cause bleeding.

Method 4:

On the day of tooth extraction, you should not engage in strenuous exercise or heavy physical labor, drink alcohol, play musical instruments, suck on the wound, or rinse your mouth.

Method 5:

After the anesthetic wears off, there will be a slight pain in the tooth extraction wound, but generally no medication is needed. If there is fever, severe pain, swelling or heavy bleeding, you should seek medical attention immediately.

Should I choose cold or hot compress to reduce swelling after tooth extraction?

Some people would take it for granted that in order to reduce swelling quickly, they should apply hot compress. Experts believe that tooth extraction, like other traumatic surgeries, will leave small wounds in the alveolar socket and periodontal tissues, which will cause bleeding and exudation. Whether to apply cold or hot compresses depends on the situation.

Within one or two days after tooth extraction, the extraction wound will be in the bleeding and exudation stage. At this time, the exudation should be "stopped" and the local blood supply should be reduced. Naturally, cold compresses should be applied. 3 to 4 days after tooth extraction, the wound has shifted from exudation to the repair stage. At this time, the blood supply to the area should be increased and the metabolic level should be improved. "Local warming" will naturally be beneficial to the recovery of the wound. You can use methods such as hot towels and hot compresses to enhance local blood circulation, improve metabolic levels, and thus promote wound healing.
