The taste of real honey

The taste of real honey

Honey has very high nutritional value, but now there are some fake honeys sold outside that are made with saccharin. We can't tell the difference at all unless we are professional beekeepers who have a full understanding of honey. Only by looking at and splitting can we know whether it is real honey or fake honey. How can we distinguish the taste and appearance of honey?

No matter what kind of honey it is, purity is the most important!

After drinking good honey, you will feel a hot and spicy taste in your throat. Good honey in summer is like good oil, and it will crystallize in winter! It can be identified by the following methods:

1. Drop honey on white paper or straw paper. If the honey gradually seeps out, it means it is mixed with sucrose and water. Honey mixed with sugar has poor transparency, is not clear, is turbid, and has poor floral aroma. Honey mixed with brown sugar is dark in color, while honey mixed with white sugar is light white.

2. Insert a red-hot iron wire into the honey. If it emits steam, it is real honey. If it emits smoke, it is fake. Pick up the honey with chopsticks. If it can be pulled into a long thread, the one that automatically shrinks and becomes a ball when the thread breaks is the best. Mix honey and water in a ratio of 1:5 and leave it for a day. If there is no precipitation, it is the best.

3. Honey mixed with flour, starch or corn flour is turbid and not sweet enough. Put a small amount of honey in a cup, add appropriate amount of water and boil it. After cooling, add a few drops of iodine and shake well. If the solution turns blue, red or purple, it means that the honey is mixed with starch.

4. Take a tablespoon of honey and add it to a small half cup of very strong cold green tea. If the honey is contaminated by heavy metals, the tannins in the tea will react chemically with the heavy metals in the honey to produce gray, brown, or black salts. The darker the color, the more serious the heavy metal contamination.

5. Use a red-hot iron wire to insert into the honey. If there is sticky material on the wire, it means there are impurities in the honey. If the wire is still smooth, it means there are no impurities. Take one part of honey, add two parts of cold boiled water and four parts of 95% alcohol, mix well and leave it for a day and night. If there is no precipitation of impurities, it means the quality is pure.

First look: Observe the color, luster and state of the honey with your eyes to preliminarily judge the authenticity of the honey.

The color of honey varies greatly depending on the type of flower that produces the nectar. Even honey from the same flower can be dark or light. Its color generally ranges from watery white to dark amber. Pure single-flower honey has its own relatively unique and fixed color. Even if there are differences in color due to factors such as year, climate, and regional differences, the difference will not be too outrageous and there is a general color range.

Honey becomes lighter in color after crystallization, honey becomes darker in color after a year or after being stored for many years, becomes darker in color after being exposed to sunlight for a long time or stored under high temperature conditions, becomes darker in color after being heated or boiled at high temperatures, becomes darker in color after being contaminated by heavy metals, becomes darker in color after being mixed with maltose or white sugar, and becomes abnormally bright in color after being mixed with chemical dyes.
