What is the cause of knee joint soreness

The knee is a vital part of the human body when walking. Many people with bad knee joints find it very inconvenient to walk. This situation becomes more obvious on cloudy and rainy days. They often feel unbearable soreness and swelling in the knee joints. So what is the cause of soreness and swelling in the knee joints? Knee joint soreness and swelling are mostly considered to be osteoarthritis. The following article will focus on introducing some relevant knowledge about osteoarthritis.

Symptoms of knee osteoarthritis

1. Pain: It mainly manifests as pain when walking and bearing weight, such as pain when going up and down stairs and squatting and standing up. In severe osteoarthritis, there will be pain even when resting.

The pain is often related to the temperature and air pressure environment. It worsens in autumn and winter and when the weather changes, so it is called "old cold legs".

2. Swelling: Swelling may be caused by joint effusion or by soft tissue degeneration and hyperplasia. The most common cause is the coexistence of two or three of the above reasons, with swelling of the suprapatellar bursa and infrapatellar fat pad being the most common, but the entire knee may also be swollen. Depending on the severity of the disease, there may or may not be an increase in local skin temperature (a manifestation of inflammation).

3. Deformity: Genu varum deformity is the most common, and is more common in patients with severe osteoarthritis and a long course of disease. Generally, when it develops to this stage, surgical intervention is required.

4. Movement disorder: It is mainly caused by severe pain in the knee joint and long-term joint immobilization, which leads to adhesion of ligaments and muscles around the joint, manifested as a reduction in the range of motion of the knee joint or even joint stiffness and ankylosis.

How to prevent knee osteoarthritis?

1. Reduce the load on joints, for example, avoid working in a squatting position and avoid lifting heavy objects repeatedly, especially with excessive force;

2. Do not over-exert joints during daily activities. Be gentle when flexing and extending joints. Excessive movement will cause excessive stretching, friction and compression of tendons, ligaments and joints themselves.

3. Do not do the same action for a long time or keep the joints in the same posture. For example, avoid squatting, sitting or standing for a long time, as this will cause excessive tension in the muscles and ligaments related to the joints and lead to joint damage.

4. Avoid excessive knee joint movement, such as running or playing for a long time;

5. When pain occurs, stop exercising immediately to avoid joint trauma.

6. Be careful when moving to avoid slipping, falling or spraining;

7. Do moderate exercise. Long-term inactivity of joints can also lead to disuse atrophy of the joints. It is recommended to do exercises such as walking and swimming.

8. Balanced nutrition, do not be picky about food, and eat more foods containing protein, calcium, collagen, and isoflavones;

9. Maintain a scientific lifestyle, a good mood and a normal weight. Overweight people need to lose weight to reduce the load on the knee joints;

10. Avoid wind, cold and dampness, and keep joints warm; avoid activities such as climbing mountains and dancing.
