What to do when your nose bleeds

What to do when your nose bleeds

Nosebleed is a very common condition and many people may experience nosebleed symptoms in their daily lives. In fact, there are many reasons for nosebleeds. For example, simple getting angry or dry weather can cause nosebleeds, or external injuries to the nose, human damage to the nose, etc. are all causes of nosebleeds. However, there are also some diseases that can cause nosebleeds. Therefore, if the situation is serious and symptoms of nosebleeds occur frequently, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination.

1. Local compression hemostasis:

The head should be kept in a normal upright or slightly forward posture. Use your fingers to press the front part of the nose (the soft part of the nose) on the bleeding side from the outside of the nose, similar to pinching the nose with your hands, and apply direct pressure for about five to ten minutes. Most patients can stop bleeding simply by this method. If the bleeding does not stop after compression for more than ten minutes, it may mean severe bleeding or other problems. At this time, you need to go to the doctor for further treatment. The blood clot should be blown out before stopping the bleeding to avoid the inability to stop the bleeding due to the inability to close the wound. Wetting cotton with decongestant or nasal spray and inserting it into the nostrils can help stop the bleeding. White vinegar can also work.

2. Apply ointment:

Once the nosebleed is controlled, apply some vitamin E ointment inside the nose. If vitamin E is not available, a small amount of antibiotic or steroid ointment can be used instead, applied 2 to 3 times a day. Vitamin II ointment can promote wound healing, while antibiotic or steroid ointment can destroy staphylococcus in the nasal cavity, not only relieving itching but also preventing mucus from drying up (so as not to induce the urge to pick your nose). If the nasal mucosa is painful due to dryness, you can use aloe vera or salvia miltiorrhiza ointment.

3. Use ice cold compress:

Coldness causes blood vessels to dilate and reduce bleeding. You can use crushed ice or an ice towel to apply cold compresses to your nose, neck, and cheeks to cause blood vessels to dilate and reduce bleeding. If your left (right) nostril is bleeding, raise your right (left) arm and the bleeding will stop after a few minutes. When the patient's left (right) nostril is bleeding, another person can hook the middle finger around the base of the patient's right (left) middle finger and bend it forcefully. Usually, the bleeding can stop in a few tens of seconds. Or, you can tie a cloth strip around the base of the patient's middle finger, and if the left (right) nostril is bleeding, tie the right (left) middle finger. After the bleeding stops, untie the cloth strip.

4. Acupoint massage.

Acupoint: Jianjing acupoint (located at the midpoint of the line connecting the acromion and the acromion) Treatment method: The patient sits down, and the operator pinches and squeezes the center of the acupoint with the index and thumb, lifting the shoulder muscles upward for 3-5 seconds. Repeat three times, with a two-minute break between each time. Repeat three times when an attack occurs. One course of treatment is 5 days. There is a 3-day interval between each course of treatment. Pregnant women should not use this method.
