How long can a person go without eating

Some people don't want to eat when they feel bad. In fact, not eating when you are in a bad mood is also very bad for our body, but mood can make our appetite smaller. When a person loses weight, most people will choose to diet, but excessive dieting can also cause stomach problems. So how long can a person go without eating?

From the perspective of human physiological reactions, a person can only go without water for 72 hours at most, and will eventually die from dehydration. If you only drink water but don't eat, you can only last for a week at most. For a healthy body, the heart needs to beat and the muscles need to move, which require sufficient protein, fat and sugar to maintain normal operation.

When fasting, the human body will lack three major nutrients: one is carbohydrates, without which the human nerve cells and muscle cells will all "stop working", leading to coma; the second is protein, after fasting, the human body will use its own protein as a "substitute"; the third is fat, after no intake, the human body will use its own fat, but the burning of fat instead of carbohydrates to participate in energy metabolism can easily cause acidosis, the entire blood Ph value will drop, and affect the functions of the nervous system and organs such as the liver and kidneys. People who fast usually die from multi-system and multi-organ failure. Generally speaking, organs fail in the following order.

Brain: Due to dieting, the brain is in a state of chronic malnutrition, which causes hypoglycemia and ischemia of nerve cells, resulting in memory loss and decreased thinking ability.

Liver: Decreased serum protein synthesis and decreased circulating protein levels.

Kidney: Decreased function causes general fatigue, lack of energy, decreased libido, and a few people will experience varying degrees of edema in both lower limbs.

Heart: Blood output and myocardial contractility are reduced.

Stomach: Gastric acid is still secreted, but there is no food for the stomach to digest, so the gastric acid begins to irritate the stomach, causing chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer and other diseases.
