Diet after lung surgery

Diet after lung surgery

Diet after lung surgery is very important and is related to the gradual recovery of the lungs, so we should pay attention to dietary adjustments after surgery. After lung surgery, the diet should be light and easy to digest, and you should eat more foods that regulate the spleen and lungs, such as whole grain porridge or rice porridge, which are relatively easy to digest. Then avoid greasy and spicy food, and eat more foods that improve immunity.

1. You can resume normal diet on the first day after lung resection. Depending on the size of each patient's surgery and their physical recovery after surgery, patients can drink water within 8 hours and eat liquid food within 12 hours after waking up from anesthesia. You can start eating semi-liquid food for breakfast on the first day after surgery. Of course, it is better to eat light porridge or thin vegetable porridge, such as noodle soup, thin vegetable porridge or egg custard.

2. Regarding diet after lung resection, the patient's family must determine the menu based on the patient's long-term eating habits, especially the patient's breakfast habits developed over the years. Avoid taking nourishing thick meat broth or thick chicken soup on the first day after surgery. The diet for 8-24 hours after surgery is mainly to restore the function of the digestive tract. It is best not to take milk or fruit juice. The former can easily cause abdominal distension, and the latter can easily cause diarrhea if it is not fresh or stored improperly.

3. Eat foods that improve immunity: After lung resection, patients have poor physical condition and low immunity, so they should eat more foods that can improve immunity, such as yam, turtle, mushroom, kiwi, fig, apple, sardine, honey, milk, pork liver, etc., to improve the body's disease resistance and speed up the recovery process.
