Intravenous pyelography is a common method for treating renal pelvic separation. Organic iodine solution is used for intravenous injection. The patient will feel slight discomfort during the whole treatment, but it will not make the patient feel pain. Generally, it can be completed in 15-20 minutes. However, it should be noted that no food, including drinking water, should be taken for 12 hours before treatment to achieve the best effect. 1. Is intravenous pyelography painful? Intravenous pyelography is uncomfortable but not painful. It is a method in which organic iodine solution is injected intravenously, and almost all of it is filtered through the glomeruli and discharged into the urethra, thereby visualizing the renal calyces, renal pelvis, ureters and bladder. Generally it takes 15-20 minutes. You are not allowed to drink water within 12 hours before the angiography, and you cannot have breakfast in the morning. The breakfast here means not even a drop of water can be consumed. Contraindications of intravenous pyelography (1) Renal failure: Since the contrast agent concentration in urine is low, the contrast agent has poor imaging, and may be toxic to the kidneys, leading to deterioration of renal function, patients with renal failure are not suitable for this examination. (2) Iodine allergy: Patients who are allergic to iodine should use desensitization drugs before angiography. If the iodine allergy test is negative, there is still a possibility of an allergic reaction and close observation is required during the angiography process. (3) Pregnant women: In order to avoid the impact of X-rays on embryonic development, pregnant women need to strictly control their exposure. Angiography for women of childbearing age should be performed within 10 days after menstruation. (4) Multiple myeloma: Patients with this disease may develop urinary retention during intravenous urography, especially in patients with oliguria, so this examination is not recommended. 3. Precautions for intravenous pyelography Before the test: You must take a laxative before going to bed one night. Do not drink water or take liquid food three hours before the imaging (you can eat a small amount of dry food such as pancakes, bread, etc.). Please bring contrast media with you to the Radiology Department when you come for the examination. If you cannot come on the inspection day due to special circumstances, please notify us two days in advance, otherwise it will be invalid after the expiration date. During the examination: actively cooperate with the doctor. Outpatient patients please go to the outpatient service desk to collect the report with the medical history card 3 days after the examination. Not suitable for people: In order to avoid the radiation effects of X-rays on the fetus, pregnant women should try not to undergo intravenous pyelography. This examination is not suitable for patients with acute infectious diseases, high fever, severe cardiovascular and liver diseases, acute urinary tract infection, pregnancy and postpartum period. |
