Meridians of the human body

Meridians of the human body

The meridians are spread all over the body and play a very important role in our human body. They run through the blood in each person's body and enable the blood to circulate to various organs. If there is a problem with the meridians, it will lead to many irreversible consequences, such as hemiplegia, intellectual impairment, etc. Therefore, once there is an abnormality in our body, we should check it in time. So what are the meridians in the human body?

The meridians in the human body can generally be divided into twelve meridians, eight extraordinary meridians, and the central meridian described by Tibetan Tantric practitioners. The twelve meridians refer to the gallbladder meridian, liver meridian, lung meridian, large intestine meridian, stomach meridian, spleen meridian, heart meridian, small intestine meridian, bladder meridian, kidney meridian, pericardium meridian, and triple burner meridian. These twelve meridians connect the vital energy of the five internal organs in the human body, including the heart, lungs, liver, spleen, kidney, large intestine, small intestine, stomach, gallbladder, bladder, and triple burner, and make them circulate naturally according to the changes of the twelve hours. In fact, these twelve meridians are connected in every normal human body.

The twelve meridians are symmetrically distributed on both sides of the human body, running along the inner or outer sides of the upper or lower limbs respectively. Each meridian belongs to an internal organ or a bowel movement. Therefore, the name of each of the twelve meridians includes three parts: hand or foot, yin or yang, and internal organ or bowel movement. The hand meridians run through the upper limbs, the foot meridians run through the lower limbs; the yin meridians run through the inner sides of the limbs and belong to the internal organs, while the yang meridians run through the outer sides of the limbs and belong to the internal organs.

The direction and intersection of the twelve meridians follow certain rules. "Lingshu·Nishun Feishou" said: "The three yin meridians of the hand go from the chest to the hand; the three yang meridians of the hand go from the hand to the head; the three yang meridians of the foot go from the head to the foot; and the three yin meridians of the foot go from the foot to the abdomen." That is: the three yin meridians of the hand go from the chest to the fingertips and connect with the three yang meridians of the hand; the three yang meridians of the hand go from the fingertips to the head and face and connect with the three yang meridians of the foot; the three yang meridians of the foot go from the head and face to the toes and connect with the three yin meridians of the foot; the three yin meridians of the foot go from the toes to the abdomen and chest and connect with the three yin meridians of the hand, thus forming a circular path of "yin and yang interlinking, like a ring with no end".

The order of flow of qi and blood in the twelve meridians is that the hand Taiyin lung meridian flows into the hand Yangming large intestine meridian at the tip of the index finger, and in sequence: through the wing of the nose, it flows into the foot Yangming stomach meridian, through the tip of the big toe, it flows into the foot Taiyin spleen meridian, through the heart, it flows into the hand Shaoyin heart meridian, through the tip of the little finger, it flows into the hand Taiyang small intestine meridian, through the inner canthus of the eye, it flows into the foot Taiyang bladder meridian, through the tip of the little toe, it flows into the foot Shaoyin kidney meridian, through the chest, it flows into the hand Jueyin pericardium meridian, through the tip of the ring finger, it flows into the hand Shaoyang triple burner meridian, through the outer canthus of the eye, it flows into the foot Shaoyang gallbladder meridian, through the big toe, it flows into the foot Jueyin liver meridian, and through the lung, it flows into the hand Taiyin lung meridian, completing a cycle.
