How to deal with termites at home

What people don’t know is that the termites that harm homes are mainly domestic termites. Generally, newly built houses are not infested by termites. Termites enter homes to corrode furniture and build nests, mainly by building paths in the soil to crawl into the house and by winged reproductive ants flying in to build nests. So today I will tell you how to deal with termites in your home.

The key to preventing house termites from entering homes and causing damage is to take targeted measures against their spreading routes. The mature nests of Coptotermes formosanus spread out in groups in April every year, especially in the hot and humid evening (19:00-21:00). The winged reproductive ants fly toward the lights, invade the room, mate and look for suitable gaps to build their nests.

Therefore, during the termite swarming season, residents should take measures to prevent house termites from flying into the house. (1) If you find winged reproductive termites flying into your home at dusk, close the doors and windows immediately and turn off the lights that attract termites (fluorescent lights or other bright lights) to reduce the number of termites flying into your home. (2) If you find a small number of winged reproductive ants flying into your home, place a basin of water under the light to make the flying termites fall into the water and drown, or use household pest control agents such as Black Tornado, Bipu, Radar, etc. to spray and kill the termites.

The winged adult termite is 7.8?.0 mm long, with a yellowish-brown back and two pairs of wings of similar size on the sides of the body, with light yellow wing surfaces. At the same time, under the light, you can see a kind of black-winged termite (commonly known as big water ant), which mainly harms agricultural and forestry crops and near-ground wooden structures. It has a body length of 12-4 mm, and its body and wings are black-brown, which can easily distinguish it from the house termite.

For termite prevention treatment of newly built houses, there are usually special termite prevention companies in big cities. For newly built houses in rural areas, you can buy some 10% cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate and dilute it 100?00 times and apply it to the wooden structures connecting the soil and walls.

Dig a 40 cm deep and 30 cm wide trench around the newly built house, mix the soil in the trench with 50 times the concentration of 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate, and form a poisoned soil trench to prevent termites from crawling into the house and causing harm.

If termites are found in old houses, you can go to a county or city-level termite control company to buy some ant-killing powder and tools for prevention and control. For places where ant trails and cluster holes are found, a small hole can be opened on the ant trail with live ants and 30% of ant powder balls can be sprayed to allow the termites to return to the nest with the medicine and infect the nest and die.

If you find a large number of termites concentrated on eating wooden boxes, floor slabs, bookcases, etc., you can spray pesticides in multiple places where the termites are active so that as many termites as possible can bring the pesticides back to the nest to achieve good ant extermination results.

It is best to carry out termite prevention treatment on old houses together with house renovation. Use 100?00 times dilution of 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate and 10% cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate to brush and spray on the wall joints, floor joints, door frames, window frames and wall joints of the house. For renovated houses, small holes can be drilled at certain intervals in key locations of the wooden structure near the wall and the ground, and injected with chlorpyrifos solution. The holes should be filled completely after injection.

If you find house termites in the green spaces and flower beds around your house, you should take timely measures to prevent and control them, otherwise the termites will spread indoors and cause harm. You can dig traps where live termites are found and use pine boards to kill them.
