What are the symptoms of bugs in the eyes

Some people often feel uncomfortable in their eyes, always feeling that there is something inside. When they go to the hospital for a check-up, they find bugs in their eyes. It’s scary to think about it, and this kind of bug lurks in the eyes. If it is not removed for a long time, it will affect vision. This kind of bug may be caused by contact with animals with more bacteria such as cats or dogs. If you are not careful, it will come into contact with the eyes. This kind of bug is called nematode, and it is very slender. You must pay more attention to it in your daily life, avoid contact with things with more bacteria, and pay attention to hygiene.

There's a worm hiding in my eye

There was an old farmer who had been doing farm work at home and was in good health. But for some unknown reason, his right eye vision had been deteriorating over the past four months, and later on, he could hardly see anything. However, his left eye's vision has always been good.

During the examination at the local hospital, it was discovered that there was a foreign object in the eye. After examination, the doctor found that the foreign object was actually a worm, curled up and its length could not be seen. The place where it "lurks" is exactly the small pit at the bottom of the macula of the eye which most affects vision, because the macula is the exact center of the "camera" of our eye, which is why it affects vision so much.

The caught insects are alive and kicking

"Through other examinations, we found that the worm was alone and hidden in the fundus of the eye." The doctors decided to perform surgery on the patient immediately.

Our eyes may not look big, but in fact the fundus is divided into several layers, and the worm is located in the layer under the retina. The operation was directed by Professor Wang Yi from the Department of Ophthalmology at Southwest Hospital. Associate Professors Liu Yong and Li Shiying performed the operation. They created a "tunnel" under the retina and then passed instruments through the tunnel to catch the "lurking" insects. There was only a small hole in the retina, and the retinal structure of the fundus was kept intact.

"As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw the worm jumping around very fast." Measurements with the naked eye showed that the worm was about 8 mm long and white in color.

Yesterday, when the reporter saw the worm in the hospital, it was placed in a very small test tube and did not move much.

After preliminary confirmation, the worm was found to be "nematode", a zoonotic parasitic disease. It was learned that Mr. Liu had been injured in the eye by a tree branch before. "I took care of it for two days and then continued to work." Experts speculated that the insect may have had insect eggs on his hand when Mr. Liu was accidentally injured, and then entered the fundus of the eye through the wound.

Every time you put in or take out your contact lenses

Always wash your hands

Experts say that this nematode also likes to parasitize on cats and dogs, and fruit flies may also carry its eggs to any other place. If you are not careful and your hands are stained with invisible eggs, and you happen to rub your eyes with your hands, the eggs may accidentally enter your eyes and make their home there. Southwest Hospital encounters cases of worms growing in the eyes every year. Even if insects don't like to move around and settle in a certain place, they will secrete some toxins, which is not good for the body.

"I would like to remind everyone to pay attention to hygiene and wash your hands after contact with dogs, cats and other animals." Experts say that if you have pets at home, you should bathe them regularly and wash your hands with soap and running water after holding a pet. Especially for citizens who wear contact lenses, be sure to wash your hands when putting on or taking out contact lenses every day.
