How long does it take to recover from eye pterygium surgery

Having pterygium in the eye is not a particularly serious problem and this type of problem is easy to solve. Normally, a simple surgery can be used to remove pterygium in the eye. Many friends worry that recovery after surgery will be very inconvenient and affect work and life. So how long does it take to recover after surgery for pterygium in the eye? Normally, the stitches can be removed after 7 days, and further recovery can be expected after 2 to 3 weeks.

The shape of pterygium can be divided into 3 parts:

1. It grows on the black pupil and is the head of the pterygium.

2. The area that spreads out in a fan shape backwards and is located at the junction of the black and white eyeballs is called the neck.

3. The wide part that extends to the surface of the white of the eye is called the body, on which there are many new blood vessels.

Because the entire part of the pterygium resembles a bird's wing, it is called a pterygium.

There are two types of pterygium:

(1) Progressive type: The neck of the pterygium is wide, with many new blood vessels, congestion, hypertrophy, and a triangular body that extends to both sides. The head is obviously bulging and grows into the surface of the black eyeball, even covering the pupil.

(2) Static type: The pterygium stops growing when it reaches the edge of the pupil. It is not congested, is slightly red, has a flat head, and a thin neck and body. It is in a relatively static state, but does not disappear on its own.

What should you do if you have pterygium? Generally, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment. There are two common prevention and control methods:

(1) Drug treatment: For patients with static type, if the pterygium has not invaded the black pupil and does not affect vision, no treatment is necessary. For those with trachoma or chronic conjunctivitis, antibiotic or glucocorticoid eye drops can be used, such as 0.25% chloramphenicol or 0.5% cortisone eye drops, 3 to 4 times a day. In terms of traditional Chinese medicine, you can use Xiaonioling eye drops to apply to the eyes 4 times a day.

(2) For patients with progressive pterygium or pterygium growing into the pupil and affecting vision, they should go to the hospital for pterygium removal, but it is easy to relapse. If conditions permit, 90 strontium irradiation or beta irradiation can be performed after surgery to prevent recurrence. The operation is not very big, it is a surgery on the surface of the eyeball, and it is not painful. Of course, this operation must be performed under a microscope to achieve the ideal effect. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that during the treatment period, one should avoid eating spicy foods such as chili peppers and onions, and should avoid smoking and drinking. However, pterygium is not easy to cure and is prone to recurrence.

Prevention of pterygium: The prevention of pterygium is mainly to avoid smoke, sand and sunlight stimulation as much as possible, pay attention to eye hygiene, and seek timely treatment for trachoma or other types of conjunctivitis. At the same time, you should pay attention to adequate sleep, regular life, avoid dry stools and other adjustments to your overall condition.
