What causes tongue and mouth numbness?

There are many reasons for oral numbness. The most common ones may be metabolic and endocrine disorders, a foreign body sensation in the throat, and local tartar or tooth tip stimulation, which can directly or indirectly cause oral numbness. The most important thing is to find out the real cause and prescribe the right medicine to better eliminate the symptoms of oral numbness, so as to avoid worsening of the disease and causing other diseases, which will be bad for your health.

First see the dentist, such symptoms may be atypical burning mouth syndrome, which is not uncommon in clinical practice. It is a group of syndromes with burning and tingling sensations on the tongue as the main manifestations, also known as glossodynia, abnormal tongue sensation, and abnormal oral mucosal sensation. The disease mostly occurs at the root of the tongue, followed by the edge, back and tip of the tongue. Other parts such as cheeks, lips, palate, and pharynx may also be affected. When the disease occurs, the symptoms of tongue pain show a time rhythmic change from lighter in the morning to heavier in the evening, and worsen when talking too much, eating dry food, or resting. However, the pain generally does not worsen when the attention is distracted by work, eating, sleeping, or eating, but instead decreases or even disappears. Because its symptoms manifest as burning pain and stabbing pain, which are different from general pain, a considerable number of patients come to the hospital for treatment with a "cancer fear" after they have symptoms, which brings great inconvenience and pressure to their work and life. Patients with burning mouth syndrome often seek medical treatment with tongue pain and burning sensation, but medical staff often fail to see signs of local damage in clinical practice, which makes accurate diagnosis difficult, easily leads to misdiagnosis, and delays in treatment. Patients often feel tongue pain subjectively, but doctors do not find any abnormalities in the tongue and the tongue's mobility is also normal. This condition is called burning mouth syndrome. In addition to tongue pain, other oral mucosa may also have burning pain. Burning mouth syndrome is quite common in clinical practice.

Numbness of the tongue is mostly related to slow blood flow, increased blood viscosity, changes in microcirculation, local blood supply deficiency or cerebral blood supply deficiency. You can check blood lipids, blood sugar, blood pressure and blood viscosity. Pay attention to drinking more water, take small doses of aspirin, salvia miltiorrhiza, vinca leaf tablets and other medicines under the guidance of a doctor, and pay attention to supplementing vitamins B1, B6, C, etc., which can reduce blood viscosity, improve microcirculation, and eliminate numbness.

It may have the following causes:

1. Metabolic and endocrine disorders and vitamin deficiency, especially in menopausal women.

(ii) Due to various reasons, patients may feel a foreign body in the throat, which may cause them to suspect that there is a "tumor" in the throat. Or, they may occasionally see an enlargement in the back of their tongue, which may cause them to feel fear and discomfort or pain in the tongue. In order to observe the condition, patients often stick out their tongues to look in the mirror. This activity fatigues the root of the tongue, which in turn aggravates the patient's symptoms.

(iii) Stimulation from local tartar, sharp tooth tips, etc. The treatment of this disease mainly depends on the patient letting go of his or her mental burdens and maintaining an optimistic attitude. Drug treatment can be used if necessary.
