I have had diarrhea for a few days. What's going on?

Diarrhea is very harmful to the stomach and intestines. Many people hope to have diarrhea for a few more days when they are losing weight. Diarrhea seems to help lose weight, but after stopping diarrhea, they will gain weight again. What's going on with diarrhea for a few days? This is a question many people have. It is not because of eating randomly that this problem is caused. There are some reasons. Depending on the symptoms, the reasons are also different. The following is a detailed introduction.

Common causes and symptoms

1. Anthrax: This disease is caused by eating meat infected with anthrax bacteria. Early symptoms include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and fever. The later stage symptoms include severe bloody stools and abdominal pain.

2. Carcinoid syndrome: Severe diarrhea is often accompanied by flushing of the head and neck, mainly due to eating irritating food, hot water or alcohol. Its symptoms and signs mainly include abdominal cramps, anorexia, weight loss, fatigue, heart disease and depression.

3. Dysentery: After consuming water and food infected with Shigella dysenteriae, patients will experience acute watery stools and vomiting. Other symptoms include thirst (due to loss of water and electrolytes), fatigue, muscle cramps, decreased skin elasticity, tachycardia, and low blood pressure. Without treatment, the patient will die within a few hours.

4. Clostridium difficile infection: Patients may be asymptomatic or find that their stools are unformed, or watery stools are accompanied by foul odor, pus and blood, abdominal pain, abdominal muscle tension, fever, and elevated white blood cell count. In severe cases, it may progress to toxic megacolon, intestinal perforation, and peritonitis.

5. Crohn's disease: This disease often causes diarrhea and abdominal pain, accompanied by abdominal muscle tension and nausea. Patients may also have fever, chills, fatigue, anorexia, and weight loss.

6. Escherichia coli infection: Eating raw meat or other foods containing this bacteria may cause watery or bloody stools, nausea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal cramps. Children, teenagers, and the elderly under 5 years old may experience hematuria and eventually develop acute renal failure. Acute renal failure is one of the complications of Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection.

7. Infection: Acute bacterial and viral infections and latent infections such as Helicobacter pylori infection can cause sudden watery stools and abdominal pain or nausea, vomiting, and fever. Severe loss of water and electrolytes can cause dehydration and shock. Diarrhea caused by chronic tuberculosis, fungal and parasitic infections has mild symptoms and lasts for a long time, accompanied by digestive dysfunction, nausea, weight loss, and possible mucus, pus and blood in the stool.

8. Intestinal obstruction: Incomplete intestinal obstruction increases the possibility of intestinal necrosis, which can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, abdominal muscle tension, nausea and bloating

9. Irritable bowel syndrome: alternating constipation and diarrhea, manifested by abdominal pain, bloating, loss of appetite, and nausea.

10. Ischemic intestinal necrosis: This disease can cause bloody stools and abdominal pain. In severe cases, shock may occur and surgical treatment is required.

11. Lactose intolerance: Diarrhea may occur several hours after consuming milk or dairy products, accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, and nausea.

12. Colorectal cancer: In this disease, partial intestinal obstruction often causes bloody stools, as well as abdominal pain, loss of strength, fatigue, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite and depression.
