The right thing to do when you have a nosebleed

The right thing to do when you have a nosebleed

In daily life, many people have experienced nosebleeds, or some people around them have experienced nosebleeds. At this time, we need to use methods to stop the nosebleed as soon as possible. When nosebleeds occur, many people will be very nervous and don’t know how to deal with it correctly. Sometimes, incorrect methods of stopping nosebleeds will make the nosebleed more serious.

You cannot lie down, tilt your head back, or stuff tissues into your mouth.

Lying down with your head tilted back will cause nosebleeds to flow along the throat wall into the esophagus and stomach, causing nausea, vomiting, and even suffocation. Stuffing tissues in the wound can easily lead to infection and inflammation.

Adjust and relax

Breathe deeply and slowly: inhale slowly for 3 seconds, then exhale slowly. A calm and clear mind is the key to our successful response to sudden dangers.

Apply pressure to stop bleeding.

Sit upright with your head tilted slightly forward. Pinch the wings of your nose tightly between your index finger and thumb.

Apply cold compress.

Placing an ice pack or a towel soaked in cold water on the forehead or base of the nose for cold compress can cause blood vessels to constrict and speed up bleeding.

Go to the hospital.

If the nosebleed has not stopped after 15 minutes of performing the above operations, you need to find someone to go to the hospital immediately for further treatment. Of course, even if the bleeding is successfully stopped, you still need to go to the hospital for examination. Because nosebleeds may be a warning from certain blood diseases, or they may be caused by ruptured nasal mucosa or exposed blood vessels. They need to be treated promptly to avoid bleeding again.

What to eat for nosebleed

1. Peanuts

Peanuts are also called longevity fruit. They are rich in unsaturated fatty acids and contain no cholesterol, which can help clear blood vessels. Peanuts can alleviate some nosebleeds caused by poor coagulation mechanism. Peanuts without red skin can increase platelet content, improve platelet quality, and improve coagulation factor defects, thus promoting coagulation.

2. Lotus root

According to the "Compendium of Materia Medica", "Raw lotus root is sweet and cold, can cool blood and stop bleeding, remove heat and clear the stomach, mainly dissipate blood stasis, vomiting blood, bleeding from the mouth and nose, postpartum blood congestion, treat wounds and fractures, stop fever and thirst, cholera, depression, and hangover; cooked lotus root is sweet and warm, can strengthen the spleen and appetite, replenish blood and nourish the heart, mainly nourish the five internal organs, strengthen the lower jiao, digest food, stop diarrhea, and promote muscle growth. Long-term consumption makes people happy and relieves anger."

3. Honey pear paste

Honey is sweet and mild in nature, and enters the lung, spleen, and large intestine meridians. It can moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements, nourish the lungs and moisten the throat, and also detoxify. Pears are sweet, slightly sour and cool, and enter the lung and spleen meridians. They can cure thirst, cough and constipation. Therefore, putting the two together to make a paste can have the effect of moisturizing the throat. Fresh green leafy vegetables, cucumbers, oranges, green tea, pears, and carrots also have a good effect of clearing heat.

4. Tremella

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, frequent nosebleeds are mostly caused by factors such as lung dryness and blood heat. Tremella has the effect of clearing and moistening the lungs, and is a very good maintenance food. Patients with frequent nosebleeds can eat more Tremella soup, which can not only help you clear the heat in the lungs, but also achieve a health-care effect.

5. Red dates

Frequent nosebleeds will inevitably cause physical weakness and severe blood loss, and dates are known to have the function of replenishing blood and nourishing qi. Therefore, if you are a patient with frequent nosebleeds, you might as well eat more red dates, which can not only replenish your lost blood, but also replenish qi and nourish your skin.
