Bone bulge on the little finger joint

The bone bulge on the little finger joint may be caused by a ganglion cyst. People of any age are likely to develop a ganglion cyst. There are more female patients than male patients. Ganglion cysts have no obvious adverse reactions, except that they have an extra part in appearance. The specific content and treatment methods of ganglion cyst are introduced below. You can refer to it and compare your own situation.

Ganglion cyst is a benign cystic mass that occurs near a joint or tendon sheath. It is most common on the dorsum of the wrist, the palmar flexor tendon, and the dorsum of the foot. Currently, most people believe that it is the connective tissue on the joint capsule, ligament, and tendon sheath that undergoes degeneration due to local malnutrition; chronic injury causes an increase in synovial fluid in the synovial cavity and forms a cystic herniation. People who deal with computers for a long time, hold the mouse for too long, or have incorrect posture, may cause damage to the synovial cavity of the hand joint and cause illness. Some cases are related to trauma.

Ganglion cysts can occur at any age, but are more common in young and middle-aged people, and more common in women than in men. The cyst grows slowly, is round, and generally does not exceed 2 cm in diameter. The cyst contains colorless, transparent, gelatinous mucus. . In most cases, apart from local swelling, there is no discomfort and the swelling is only felt as a burden and unsightly. However, excessive wrist movement (due to increased internal pressure) may cause soreness, swelling and weakness, which may affect movement.

Most cysts have high tension and a tough texture, while a few are soft, but all have a cystic feeling. Ultrasound examination can determine the nature of the mass.

Treatment

1. Non-surgical treatment

(1) Acupuncture therapy: Use ordinary acupuncture needles to pierce the cyst wall around the cyst, with 4 needles inserted in opposite directions and 1 needle in the center, once a day, leaving the needles in place for 30 minutes each time. After removing the needles, apply pressure to the cyst to squeeze the cyst fluid out of the skin, causing the cyst to flatten and heal.

(2) Under local anesthesia, puncture with a thicker needle to extract as much colloidal fluid as possible, then inject 0.5 ml of hydrocortisone acetate and apply pressure bandage.

(3) Forceful squeezing or hammering can sometimes cause a ganglion cyst to rupture and gradually be absorbed on its own.

The above three methods are less invasive, but the possibility of recurrence is higher.

2. Surgical treatment: Cyst removal is a commonly used and reliable method. Finally, the operation is performed under a tourniquet to ensure a clear surgical field, and local anesthesia is often used. After surgery, strenuous activity of the affected joint should be avoided for 1 month.

Do not use the computer for a long time. If you need to surf the Internet for a long time, you should take a 5 to 10 minute break every hour. During the break, do indoor exercises, flexibility exercises or local massages, stretch and strengthen the shoulders, neck, upper limbs, and wrists to increase flexibility and muscle strength.
