The disadvantages of holding back bowel movements

The disadvantages of holding back bowel movements

In daily life, we face various critical situations. When we have the urge to defecate, we have to hold it. People often think that holding it for a while will not cause much impact on themselves, but they do not know that in the long run, it will cause irreversible damage to our body. Even elderly people may suffer myocardial infarction due to holding back defecation. Some younger children may suffer lifelong damage from holding back their bowel movements.

Holding back bowel movements can induce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease attacks. Clinically, the incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused by constipation, which increases abdominal pressure, and holding the breath to defecate is increasing year by year. Such as inducing angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, sudden death from stroke, etc.

Although holding in bowel movements will not lead to unexpected events like holding in urine, if stool remains in the intestines for too long it will increase the reabsorption of toxins and may lead to colon cancer. Moreover, this artificially caused irregular bowel movements can cause people to suffer from constipation. Clinically, it is found that most patients with colon cancer have a history of constipation.

Apart from pathological reasons, most people do not deliberately hold back their bowels. Dalun Ding, a master of clinical medicine, said: "If feces are stored in the intestines for too long, it will indeed cause some problems. Feces accumulated in the intestines will become drier and harder as water is continuously absorbed, making defecation difficult, which is very dangerous for patients with cardiovascular diseases. This is because the sudden increase in abdominal pressure and sympathetic nerve excitement may cause Ass syndrome, that is, cardiogenic syncope."

Holding back bowel movements can affect brain function. When constipation occurs, metabolic products remain in the digestive tract for a long time, and the action of bacteria produces a large amount of harmful substances, such as methane, phenol, and ammonia. Some of these substances diffuse into the central nervous system and interfere with brain function, with prominent manifestations such as memory loss, distraction, and slow thinking.
