What are the dangers of ankle hemangioma?

From the perspective of clinical incidence, more and more people have been suffering from hemangiomas in recent years, and the number of affected sites has increased, such as the ankles. Experts say that although hemangioma is not a serious disease, the harm it brings to patients is immeasurable. The impact on aesthetics is secondary. The key is that once the blood vessels rupture, it is easy to cause infection, and it can also cause intellectual disabilities, hearing impairment, etc.

1. Common hazards of hemangioma

1. Affecting appearance. Infant hemangioma on the skin surface causes skin damage and affects appearance due to abnormal color. This situation usually manifests itself in port-wine stains. Port-wine stains can occur in various parts of the body, but are more common on the head and face. Because they are lifelong, if no treatment measures are taken, they will accompany the infant patient for life, which will have a great impact on the child's physical and mental development. For port-wine stains, the current medical level using the American Cynosure dual-wavelength pulsed dye laser can completely cure most of them. Early treatment is more likely to restore the color to the same as normal skin.

2. Infant hemangiomas are prone to rupture and bleed, causing infection and leaving scars. This usually manifests itself in strawberry shaped hemangiomas. Because strawberry shaped hemangiomas are on the surface of the skin, the baby's skin is fragile and has no normal skin protection, so the friction back and forth can easily cause ulceration and bleeding. Once the hemangioma bleeds, it is not easy to stop the bleeding, the wound does not heal for a long time, and it is easy to cause infection. After the wound heals, scar tissue of varying sizes will be left behind. Infantile hemangiomas under the skin can be found in a wide range of locations and can occur anywhere in the body.

2. Complications of hemangioma

1. Cause visual impairment:

Visual impairment is a common complication of hemangioma. Since periorbital hemangioma can block vision, it can cause congenital amblyopia. Even if vision is not affected, upper eyelid hemangiomas can cause astigmatism. Periorbital or intraorbital hemangiomas can cause axial destruction, astigmatism, and myopia, leading to disuse amblyopia. Disuse amblyopia is one of the common causes of blindness.

2. Cause ulcers:

Common complications of hemangiomas include ulcers, which have an incidence of approximately 5% and are most likely to occur during the rapid proliferation phase or in special anatomical locations (upper lip, upper chest, perianal area, or perineum).

3. Hearing impairment:

The onset of hemangioma can also cause hearing impairment in patients. Parotid hemangioma can completely block the external auditory canal and affect hearing, but it will not affect the development of the child.

4. Cause bleeding:

Because the tumor of hemangioma is easily ruptured and bleeding due to external influences, as the age increases and the children are active, hemangiomas are most likely to be traumatized and cause severe bleeding, especially those with superficial lesions. Hemangioma bleeding cannot be controlled by bandaging or applying pressure like other traumatic bleeding. Ulcerative hemangiomas have a tendency to bleed spontaneously and can cause bleeding after even the slightest trauma.
