What's the matter with the 2 plus sign for occult blood in urine routine test

What does it mean when there are two plus signs in the urine routine test for occult blood? Is it very serious? Many people don’t know much about this issue, because not everyone can scientifically understand these test results. Therefore, after the examination, you can consult a professional doctor to find out whether there are some disease problems or what treatments should be taken. After all, occult blood in urine can also cause certain damage, especially to kidney function.

1. Meaning of the plus sign

If there are more than 2 red blood cells per high-power field of view in the urine after centrifugation under a microscope, it is called hematuria. Under a high-power microscope, 10 red blood cells are counted as "+, 1+ or +1", 20 are counted as "++, 2+ or +2", 30 are counted as "+++, 3+ or +3", and 40 are counted as "++++, 4+ or +4". In other words, the more plus signs there are, the more severe the damage to the kidney's intrinsic cells. For example, occult blood +2 means that 20 red blood cells were found under a high-power microscope after the urine was centrifuged. The appearance of "+" indicates that the intrinsic cells of the kidney have begun to be damaged, and the filtration function of the kidney has begun to be impaired by the immune mediator complex. If it is not effectively treated, the number of damaged and proliferating glomeruli will increase, and the degree of kidney damage will gradually increase. At this time, we should receive systematic and regular treatment to effectively inhibit the development of renal fibrosis.

Second, the harm of urine occult blood

Hidden dangers of occult blood-Urinary tract stones are a common disease of the urinary system, which is usually accompanied by hematuria. The harm of urinary stones to the body ranges from "mild" to "severe". In mild cases, it only causes some symptoms such as bloating and discomfort in the kidney area or abdomen. The movement of stones usually causes renal colic and hematuria. In severe cases, due to large and multiple stones or stones being in the urinary tract for too long, urine outflow is blocked, leading to urinary tract infection, hydroureteronephrosis and renal damage.

3. Inspection

1. B-ultrasound examination: B-ultrasound examination is used to determine whether the occult blood in urine is caused by kidney stones or renal tuberculosis. If the examination shows normal, then this statement is ruled out.

2. Urinalysis, the most commonly used method to check for occult blood in urine, checks whether the white blood cells and nitrite in the urine are positive. If positive, it indicates urinary tract damage, and if negative, it means the urinary tract is normal. If the urine protein is positive, it indicates nephritis or nephrotic syndrome.

3. 24-hour urine protein quantification. This test determines the degree of kidney disease based on the average level of protein in the patient's 24-hour urine. This most commonly used laboratory test method for kidney disease is very effective.
