Why is Mimosa shy?

Why is Mimosa shy?

Mimosa is not an ordinary herb, which is also reflected in its "little movements". To put it simply, being slightly touched will cause the petiole to droop and the leaves to close, which is what we call shyness. So, why does mimosa become shy? In fact, there are deeper mysteries in mimosa. Today, the editor will lead you into the world of mimosa.

Why is Mimosa shy?

At the base of its petiole there is an enlarged organ called the "pulvinus", which contains many thin-walled cells that are very sensitive to external stimuli. Once the leaf is touched, the stimulus is immediately transmitted to the pulvinus. At this time, the cell sap in the parenchyma cells begins to flow into the intercellular spaces, reducing the cell's ability to expand. The pressure between cells in the lower part of the pulvinus decreases, causing the leaves to close and the petioles to droop. After 1-2 minutes, the cell sap gradually flows back to the pulvinus, and the leaf returns to its original appearance. The reason why the above-mentioned phenomenon occurs on the leaves of Mimosa pudica is a physiological phenomenon, and is also the result of Mimosa pudica's long-term adaptation to the external environment during its system development. Because mimosa is native to tropical regions, where there are many strong winds and rainstorms, when the storm blows the leaflets, it immediately closes the leaves to protect them from the ravages of the storm, thus gradually forming this physiological phenomenon.
