Effect of camphor phenol solution

Effect of camphor phenol solution

Camphor phenol solution is relatively unfamiliar to many people, but in fact this drug is widely used in clinical practice. Camphor phenol solution is a medicine that can be used externally. People should also pay attention to the contraindications of the medicine when using it. Camphor phenol solution is very effective and can solve many medical problems, but we must also consider the possible adverse reactions after using the drug.

1.Camphor phenol solution

Camphor-phenol solution is a compound preparation, whose components are camphor and phenol. "Compound prescription" refers to a preparation made by mixing several different types of drugs. The drug name following it refers to the main drug in the prescription.

2. Function

Camphor has a mild irritating and antiseptic effect when applied to the skin. If you apply it vigorously, it will have a reddening effect; if you apply it lightly, it will feel like mint and have a cooling sensation, which is due to the stimulation of the cold receptors. It also has a mild local anesthetic effect. Camphor has a stimulating effect on the gastrointestinal mucosa, making the stomach feel warm and comfortable, while large amounts can cause nausea and vomiting. Camphor ointment is used clinically to relieve pain and relieve itching.

3. Others

Phenol is a colorless needle-shaped crystal with a special smell. It is poisonous and is an important raw material for the production of certain resins, fungicides, preservatives and drugs (such as aspirin). It can also be used to disinfect surgical instruments and excrement, kill bacteria on the skin, relieve itching and treat otitis media. The melting point is 43°C. It is slightly soluble in water at room temperature and easily soluble in organic solvents. When the temperature is higher than 65°C, it can be miscible with water in any proportion. Phenol is corrosive and will denature local proteins upon contact. If its solution comes into contact with the skin, it can be washed with alcohol. A small amount of phenol is oxidized to quinone by oxygen when exposed to air, which turns pink. It turns purple when encountering trivalent iron ions and is usually used to test phenol.
