What are the early symptoms of kidney stones? Is it obvious?

The occurrence of kidney stones is not accidental, but is formed over time. The main symptoms of kidney stones include low back pain, abdominal pain, frequent urination, and painful urination. In severe cases, it can also lead to decreased sexual function and even other complications.

1 Asymptomatic: Most of them are renal calyx stones, which are found during physical examination and B-ultrasound examination. Urine examination is negative or contains a small amount of red and white blood cells.

2 Dull pain in the lower back: mostly caused by larger stones in the renal pelvis, such as cast stones, and hematuria may occur after strenuous exercise.

3 Renal colic: often small stones, with microscopic or macroscopic hematuria, obvious percussion pain in the renal area. When the pain occurs, the patient turns pale, sweats all over the body, has a rapid and weak pulse, and even a drop in blood pressure. It is often accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal distension.

4 History of stone excretion: When pain and hematuria occur, sand or small stones may be excreted with urine. When the stones pass through the urethra, the urine flow is blocked and there is a stinging pain in the urethra. After the stones are excreted, the urine flow immediately resumes and the patient feels relaxed and comfortable.

5. Symptoms of infection: pyuria may occur in case of combined infection. In acute attacks, there may be symptoms of chills, fever, back pain, frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating.

6 Renal insufficiency: obstruction caused by kidney stones on one side may cause hydronephrosis and progressive renal dysfunction on that side; obstruction caused by bilateral kidney stones or solitary kidney stones may develop into uremia.

7 Urinary anemia: Bilateral kidney stones cause urinary tract obstruction on both sides. Urinary anemia may occur due to stone obstruction in a solitary kidney or the only functional kidney. If one side is obstructed by kidney stones, reflex urinary anemia may occur on the other side.
