How long does it take for a coccyx fracture to heal

Although humans do not have tails, our ancestors were apes, and they had tails. However, as time went by, the tails gradually shortened and degenerated, and finally became what we have today with only the coccyx. Therefore, don't think that the coccyx does not exist. As the saying goes, it takes a hundred days to heal a broken bone. It should take at least a hundred days for a broken coccyx to recover. Let's learn how long it takes to heal a broken coccyx.

1What to do if your coccyx is fractured

Coccyx fractures and dislocations are significantly more common than sacral fractures, especially in women, and often occur in life or sports accidents.

Coccygeal pain; the pain is generally tolerable and accompanied by direct or simple tenderness. Severe cases may affect bowel movements. Patients often do not like sitting or even refuse to sit because of coccygeal pain and are willing to lie on their side in bed to rest.

Local congestion is usually not obvious in the early stage after injury and is only seen when violence directly acts on the local area; but it can be clearly seen several days after the injury.

Digital rectal examination: in addition to direct tenderness, strong simple tenderness and tension pain may occur when the end of the coccyx is touched. This is very helpful for diagnosis, especially in the early stage after injury, and can be used to determine whether it is a new fracture.

Sleeping flat on your back will compress the coccyx, causing symptoms to worsen. You can change to sleeping on your side. When sitting on a chair or sofa, the coccyx will inevitably be under pressure. You can put an air cushion on the buttocks, or sit on a narrow bench to leave the coccyx free and avoid pressure. Drink more water, eat vegetables rich in fiber, and keep your bowels open to avoid constipation that may aggravate symptoms. When constipation occurs, you can take honey and eat some bananas to relieve constipation. In severe cases, laxatives can be used. In the first few days, the pain symptoms are obvious and married women should suspend sexual life. Generally, the symptoms will be mostly eliminated in about a month, and there will be no sequelae afterwards

For a very small number of patients whose symptoms remain the same after a few months, blockade therapy can be used. If the effect is still not good after local skin disinfection, surgical method is adopted to remove the coccyx. Since the coccyx has little physiological function, there is almost no impact after its removal.

2What causes coccyx fracture?

(1) Direct violence: When violence directly acts on a part of the skeleton and causes a fracture in that part, it often causes a fracture in the injured part, often accompanied by varying degrees of soft tissue damage. If the wheel hits the calf, a fracture of the tibia and fibula will occur at the impact site.

(2) Indirect violence Indirect violence can cause fractures at a distance through longitudinal conduction, leverage or torsion. For example, when a person falls from a height and lands on his feet, the trunk bends forward sharply due to gravity, and the vertebral body at the junction of the thoracic and lumbar spine is subjected to the folding force, causing compression fractures (conduction effect).

(3) Cumulative strain: Long-term, repeated, minor direct or indirect injuries can cause fractures in a specific part of the limbs. For example, long-distance marches can easily cause fractures of the second and third metatarsal bones and the lower 1/3 of the fibula.

3 What to eat to cure coccyx fracture quickly

(1) 10 grams of Chinese angelica, 15 grams of Drynaria fortunei, 10 grams of Dipsacus asper, and 250 grams of fresh pork chops or beef ribs, stew for more than 1 hour, eat the soup and meat together, and use it for two weeks.

(2) Frog Soup: 400 g chicken, 200 g pork (lean), 25 g wolfberry, 8 g Panax notoginseng, 5 g ginger. Remove the chicken’s feet, wash it, and cook it in boiling water for ten minutes. Remove it from the water, wash it, and drain it. Boil the pork in boiling water for five minutes, then remove and clean. Wash the wolfberries and Panax notoginseng, and mash them. Bring 12 cups of water or an appropriate amount of water to a boil. Add the chicken, pork, wolfberry, Panax notoginseng, and ginger and bring to a boil. Simmer for three hours on low heat and add salt to taste.

More than 5 weeks after fracture

(1) 10g of wolfberry, 15g of drynaria, 10g of dipsaci, and 50g of coix seed. First boil Drynaria fortunei and Dipsacus asper to remove the residue, then add the remaining two ingredients to cook porridge and eat.

(2) Lamb bone soup: Wash the soybeans and soak for half an hour, wash the dried oysters; wash the lamb bones and chop them into pieces; put the soybeans, dried oysters and lamb bones into a hot pot, add appropriate amount of water, simmer for 2 hours, and season. Food incompatibility: Dried oysters: Dried oysters should not be eaten with sugar.

For bone fractures, external application of plasters can cure them. The bone tissue of a fracture will lack nutrition. The plaster: Jian Gu Li Luo Patch, regulates tissue nutrition and promotes the formation and healing of callus.

4. What should you pay attention to in your daily life when you have a coccyx fracture?

1. Sleeping on your side: Sleeping on your back will compress the coccyx, causing the symptoms to worsen. You can change to sleeping on your side. In addition, Chinese medicine external application of plasters can be used for recovery.

2. Put an air cushion on the buttocks: When sitting on a chair or sofa, the coccyx will inevitably be under pressure. You can put an air cushion on the buttocks, or sit on a narrow bench to make the coccyx empty and avoid pressure. The same is true for sitting after getting up. It will take a month for it to heal initially and you can sit normally, but the stool should be softer.

3. Reasonable diet: light food, such as vegetables, fruits, soy products, eggs, etc. Avoid spicy, dry, hot and greasy food. Appropriate supplementation in the early stage may be beneficial to healing. Animal liver, seafood, soybeans, sunflower seeds and mushrooms contain high levels of zinc. Animal liver, eggs, beans, green leafy vegetables and wheat flour contain high levels of iron. Oatmeal, mustard greens, egg yolks and cheese contain high levels of manganese, so patients with bone fractures can eat more of them. In addition, you can also take medicines containing these substances.

5How long does it take to heal a coccyx fracture?

If it is just a bone fracture without dislocation, you can rest for a while, but considering your age, it may take longer. If the bone fracture cannot heal for a long time, it will be easy to cause fractures due to other reasons in the future. It is recommended to treat with traditional Chinese medicine.

Use pure wild Chinese herbal medicine to apply externally to strengthen bones and set bones. Generally, the fracture surface can be healed in about 5 days, and it can be cured in about 20 to 30 days. The X-ray can also show that the callus is growing well. However, if you feel that there is no problem with bending over, squatting, or sitting for a long time at the fractured bone, you don't need to take an X-ray.

Before treatment, rest more and move less. The so-called rest more usually means lying flat, but you can also walk around appropriately. Avoid taking drugs containing hormones to avoid causing bone necrosis. Avoid eating spicy and irritating foods.
