What is the fastest way to relieve gout pain

Once gout attacks, it is very painful, so all patients want to know how to relieve pain quickly and effectively. To relieve pain, gout patients can use some medications or take colchicine. Non-drug analgesic methods include local cold compresses. Applying cold compresses to painful joints can effectively reduce the pain caused by local inflammation.

① Taking colchicine

Colchicine is a recognized specific drug for gout analgesia. Whether colchicine can relieve pain is even used as a sign to determine whether one has gout. The usual usage is: 0.5 mg each time, once or twice a day, the total daily amount should not exceed 1.5 mg. The best effect is achieved if applied within 24 hours of onset. However, colchicine has serious side effects. Some patients experience vomiting and diarrhea after taking it, which affects kidney function. It is not recommended as a long-term painkiller.

② Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, common ones include indomethacin and ibuprofen, which can have a good analgesic effect, but their side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney damage, etc. Patients should follow the doctor's advice and use them with caution.

③Glucocorticoids

Glucocorticoids can quickly relieve pain and reduce joint congestion and edema, but they are prone to relapse after discontinuation of the drug. Therefore, this drug is only used for patients with very severe gout symptoms and recurrent attacks, and should not be used for a long time.

④Cold compress

When pain occurs, you can use an ice pack or ice mineral water to cool the painful joint for 20 to 30 minutes. Cold compresses can reduce local inflammation and pain. Note: Gout patients should never believe in hot compresses to accelerate blood circulation and relieve pain. Applying hot compresses or soaking your feet in hot water will increase the temperature and aggravate the inflammation and edema, making the pain worse.
