Scabies is usually transmitted through close contact between the human body and the infected person, especially when clothes, towels, etc. are used together, which may lead to the spread of the disease and cause severe itching of the skin. This is mainly a sensitive reaction of the human body to the insects. Moreover, this disease is more likely to occur in various parts of the body, including the areola in front of the hands, navel, surrounding genitals, inner thighs, etc. 1. Pathological causes Scabies is mainly transmitted by scabies mites which are closely linked to the human body. It can also be spread through clothing, underwear, and towels. Female mites can survive for at least several days after leaving the human body. The incubation period is about one month, but can also be as long as two months. Severe itching of the skin may be caused by the body's acquired sensitivity to insects. 2. Symptoms and signs The disease often starts between the fingers, and is prone to occur on the flexor side of the wrist, anterior axilla, areola, umbilicus, genitals and inner thighs. Scabies in young children and infants is often followed by eczematous changes with atypical distribution, which may affect the head, neck, palms, and toes. Skin lesions initially appear as rice-sized red papules, blisters, pustules and scabies tunnels. The tunnel is about 0.5 to 1 cm long, appearing as a gray or light black curved line, with the top connected to the papules and blisters. Over time, scratching may lead to suppurative infection, eczematous changes or lichenification. In addition, reddish-brown nodular lesions may occur on the scrotum, penis, glans, etc. It may also cause allergic reaction to scabies feces, resulting in wheal-like papules and urticaria all over the body. In severe cases, acute nephritis may occasionally occur. 3. Medication The principle of local treatment is to kill insects, relieve itching, and deal with complications. Commonly used drugs are 10%-20% sulfur, 20% benzyl benzoate, etc., which can be made into ointments or emulsions, etc., and can be selected according to the situation. 1% 666 (hexachlorobenzene, GBH) solution can also be used. The medicine should be applied to the entire body from the neck down, paying special attention to the areas prone to infection such as the fingers, wrists, elbows, armpits, breasts, buttocks and vulva. Generally, an adult needs 30 to 60 g or 60 to 120 ml to apply to the trunk and limbs. After applying this medicine externally, keep it on for a certain period of time. This drug can be absorbed through the skin. If the concentration is too high or it stays on the skin for too long, it can easily cause neurotoxicity. Therefore, it is not suitable for infants and pregnant women. |
