How long does it take to recover after cataract surgery?

Cataracts can usually be seen normally the next day and recover better in about a week. The entire recovery period is 1-2 months. This is a very popular treatment, and cold phacoemulsification is considered treatment, with quick recovery and short treatment time. In daily life, just pay more attention to the proper use and maintenance of your eyes, and pay attention to eye hygiene.

1. Early postoperative period

After the operation, return to the ward to rest as soon as possible, lie on your back, and avoid activity.

After anesthesia is recovered, if there is a little pain or swelling, it is okay. If the pain is obvious, you can take painkillers orally. If your eyes are particularly swollen or painful, you should tell the person on duty.

Keep the wound dry and do not remove the gauze (or eye patch) by yourself. No need to use eye drops or eye ointment on the day;

Try not to eat hard food on the day of surgery so that the muscles around the eye can reduce activity and the operated eye can rest more.

After the ward round the day after surgery, the doctor decides on the treatment plan for that day and the next few days. Therefore, do your own things before the hospital opens in the morning, such as washing your face, eating breakfast, etc., and ask the family members who accompany you to tidy up your bed and wait for the medical staff to make rounds. If there is any situation, tell the medical staff on the rounds and use the medicine according to the doctor's advice.

Try not to leave the ward after surgery, especially on the day of surgery. If your residence is not far from the hospital, you can take leave and go home to rest at night with the doctor's consent for the next few days, but you must arrive at the ward before the doctor's rounds the next day.

2. Pay attention to daily life

When resting or sleeping after surgery, lie on your back to reduce the pressure of intraocular pressure on the wound.

Within 3 months after the operation, avoid violent head shaking and do not lower your head for a long time;

Avoid severe coughing, do not do strenuous exercise, and do not lift heavy objects.

3. Protect your eyes.

Do not rub your eyes or squeeze them hard;

Wear sunglasses when you go out during the day and an eye mask when you sleep;

Cover your eyes when washing your face and hair. If you need to wash your hair, it is recommended to go to a barber shop and wash your hair in a supine position to prevent dirty water from entering your hair.

Be careful to prevent eyes from trauma and impact. If an accident occurs that causes rapid vision loss or severe pain, go to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately.

4. Use of eye drops

During hospitalization, medical staff will perform eye drops when changing dressings, and after discharge, eye drops will be administered at home.

Generally, there are two to three kinds of eye drops, each with different functions, such as preventing infection, resisting non-infectious inflammation, and dilating pupils. Some should be applied three times a day at the beginning, and then gradually reduced. Some should be applied four times a day. Remember to remember and arrange the interval time well. Do not increase or decrease the number of eye drops arbitrarily for fear of trouble.
