Many people have eaten shrimp, which is a common seafood food. The shrimp meat is relatively tender and there are many varieties. In addition to the more common crayfish and shrimp, red shrimp is also one of them. Most people in life cannot tell the difference between crayfish and red shrimp, so they are easily confused. Generally speaking, they can also be distinguished by their appearance. So what are the differences between crayfish, green shrimp and red shrimp?

1. Crayfish

Crayfish are shrimp-like in shape but have a hard shell. The adult is about 5.6~11.9 cm long, and the overall color includes red, reddish brown, and pink. The back is dark red and the sides are pink with orange or white spots. The carapace is nearly black, and there is a wedge-shaped stripe on the back of the abdomen. The body of the juvenile shrimp is uniform gray, sometimes with black ripples. The claws are long and narrow. The middle part of the carapace is not divided by mesh-like spaces, and there are obvious granules on the carapace. The rapier has lateral spines or the tip of the rapier has a notch. The claws are dark red and black with bright orange or reddish tubercles. The background color of the claws of larvae and females can be dark brown. The head is long and pointed, often with slight spines or tubercles, the tubercles usually having sharp spines.

2. Shrimp

Prawns are high-quality freshwater shrimp. It has tender meat, delicious taste, rich nutrition, and is a high-protein, low-fat aquatic food. River shrimps are widely distributed in rivers, lakes, reservoirs and ponds. A very important substance in river shrimp is astaxanthin, which is an antioxidant widely used in cosmetics, food additives, and medicines.

3. Red Shrimp

The red shrimp is 50 to 90 mm long and weighs 1.5 to 9.0 grams. Its body is red, and the posterior edges of the 1st to 6th abdominal segments are darker in color, forming bright red ribbons. The cephalothorax is large and easy to fall off. It is distributed in the East my country Sea, the southern Yellow Sea and the South China Sea, and is a dominant species in Zhejiang's offshore resources. Summer and autumn are the main fishing species for shrimp trawling operations, and the yield is particularly high in central and northern Zhejiang.
