Can vitamins be taken with tea leaves?

Nowadays, many people like to drink tea, so they always have a cup of tea at hand. Tea has become a common drink in daily life. Some people drink it directly as boiled water. When taking medicine, they will take it with tea. Many people think that vitamins are not medicines, and there is nothing wrong with taking medicine with tea. In fact, this is not the case. Taking vitamins with tea will affect the absorption of vitamins. Many medicines cannot be taken with tea.

Many doctors recommend taking medicine with warm water, but sometimes taking medicine with tea can achieve better results.

Although it is generally not recommended to take medicine with tea, this practice is also desirable in some cases. For example, anti-allergy drugs can be taken with tea.

Generally speaking, doctors advise patients not to take medicine with tea. This is mainly because the tannic acid in tea can easily react chemically with the active ingredients of the medicine, or that ingredients such as caffeine in tea can directly affect the efficacy of the medicine. However, some medicines can also be taken with tea. Take anti-allergic drugs such as promethazine, dextromethorphan, diphenhydramine, cyproheptadine, etc. as examples. Most people will feel sleepy and weak during the day after taking the medicine, which affects work efficiency. If taken with tea, these symptoms can be improved to varying degrees.

In addition, when taking vitamin drugs, stimulants, diuretics, lipid-lowering, blood sugar-lowering, and white blood cell-raising drugs, they can generally be taken with tea, because tea itself has the functions of stimulant, diuretic, lipid-lowering, blood sugar-lowering, and white blood cell-raising. When taking these drugs, tea has a synergistic effect. For example, drinking tea after taking vitamin C, the catechins in the tea can promote the absorption and accumulation of vitamin C in the human body.

But it should be noted that most medicines are not suitable for taking with tea. Kong Fancui pointed out that drugs such as minocycline, doxycycline, spiramycin; midecamycin, roxithromycin, azithromycin; bioalkali ephedrine, atropine; glycosides digitalis, digoxin, ginseng, scutellaria; anti-tuberculosis drug rifampicin; aspirin, hypnotics, etc. will react with tannic acid and cannot be taken with tea. The tannic acid component in tea beverages can make many antibiotics lose their antibacterial activity; if heart patients take digitalis to fight heart failure with tea, the drug will become ineffective or cause poisoning; drugs for treating anemia such as ferrous sulfate and ammonium ferric citrate, various digestive aids such as pepsin, amylase, pancreatic enzymes, yeast, lactase, and Chinese medicinal materials such as ginseng, coptis, phellodendron, ephedra, and yanhusuo, if taken with tea, can reduce the efficacy. In addition, tea contains caffeine, which has a stimulant effect. Therefore, it is not advisable to take sedatives, hypnotics, and antitussive drugs with tea.

Kong Fancui finally reminded that Chinese patent medicines should not be taken with tea because the ingredients of Chinese patent medicines are complex. Chinese patent medicines containing ingredients such as mother-of-pearl, jujube seeds, fritillaria, pinellia, bioalkali and iron will react with the tannins in tea and reduce their efficacy.
