Is frequent leg shaking a sign of kidney deficiency?

Is frequent leg shaking a sign of kidney deficiency?

There are many friends around us who love to shake their legs. Whether they are sitting or standing, they will shake their legs intentionally or unintentionally. Someone joked that every leg-shaker has a sewing machine in his heart. Although it is a joke, have we ever thought about the reason why we like to shake our legs? Will shaking our legs lead to kidney deficiency? With this question in mind, let’s take a look at it together.

1: Is leg shaking a disease?

People with restless legs syndrome actually have a disease called restless legs syndrome. This type of people usually appear in offices and like to shake their legs when they have nothing to do. So, do you know what harm long-term leg shaking does to your body?

2: Is leg shaking a sign of kidney deficiency?

Medically, there is indeed a disease called restless legs syndrome. Although little known, restless legs syndrome is a common condition. The prevalence rate in the general population is about 10%, while the prevalence rate in my country is estimated to be between 1.2% and 5%, and it is common among middle-aged and elderly people. Although the disease is not life-threatening, it seriously affects the patient's quality of life. This disease is a sensory motor disorder. Patients experience indescribable discomfort in their calves when sleeping or resting at night, or describe it as soreness, burning, crawling, tearing and pain. Getting out of bed and walking or beating the calves can relieve the symptoms. Many patients experience periodic involuntary movements of the lower limbs, either predominantly on one side or alternating between the two legs. In short, restless legs syndrome is a disease of the central nervous system, and its main symptom is uncontrollable leg shaking. However, patients with restless legs syndrome cannot control their leg shaking behavior, which is accompanied by intense pain, burning and other discomforts.

From the above we can see that leg shaking is a disease, but this kind of leg shaking is uncontrollable. For example, the unconscious leg shaking behavior in our daily life can be stopped immediately with the reminder of others. Therefore, for most people, leg shaking is just a bad habit and has nothing to do with any disease. It is mainly a way to vent anxiety and tension.

In addition, some people believe that from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the kidney belongs to water, the liver belongs to wood, and water produces wood. Therefore, if a person's kidney essence is insufficient, the liver essence will definitely be affected. When the liver wind moves inside, people are prone to shaking. This theory seems to make a lot of sense, but there is currently no medical research or data to explain the relationship between leg shaking and kidney deficiency. Therefore, the saying that leg shaking is caused by kidney deficiency has absolutely no scientific basis.

In short, many people in life have the phenomenon of shaking legs, which is more of a manifestation of uneasiness and anxiety. For a few people, it is caused by restless legs syndrome, but this has nothing to do with kidney deficiency.
