What is the reason for the protruding blood vessels on the wrist?

The wrist is a relatively fragile joint in the human body, and its structure is very complex with many blood vessels. The protruding blood vessels in the wrist may be caused by tenosynovitis. Tenosynovitis can easily lead to redness and swelling of the wrist, local pain and other symptoms, which greatly affect normal life and work. It can also easily lead to poor blood flow in the blood vessels and numbness of the arm.

What causes prominent blood vessels in wrists?

The blood vessels on the back of the hand and wrist are prominent, and there are small lumps. The most common cyst in this area is the ganglion cyst, which is caused by hyperplasia of the synovium between the tendons.

Early symptoms of tenosynovitis

1. Signs of tenosynovitis: local tenderness and nodules.

2. Signs of tenosynovitis: Patients have difficulty flexing their fingers, especially in the morning.

3. Signs of tenosynovitis: In severe cases, snapping sounds may occur, and the affected finger can bend but is difficult to extend, or can be extended but cannot be flexed.

4. Signs of tenosynovitis: pain, tenderness and local swelling at the radial styloid process, and sometimes a hard lump can be felt.

What are the symptoms of tenosynovitis?

1. Acute suppurative tenosynovitis: often occurs after trauma, especially puncture injuries, and often occurs in the flexor tendons of the wrist and fingers. The early stage of infection is synovitis of the tendon sheath, followed by the tendon losing its luster, turning gray or green, and becoming infiltrated with pus and necrotic. The most common is Staphylococcus, followed by Streptococcus.

2. Tuberculous tenosynovitis: caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. First, it invades the synovium of the tendon sheath, and then spreads from the palm along the ulnar and radial bursae through the carpal tunnel to the forearm. The tendon sheath is thickened due to infiltration of tuberculous granulation tissue, and the sheath contains yellow exudate and yellow rice grains. Gradually, the tendon is infiltrated by granulation tissue to form nodules and hypertrophy, losing its original smoothness and dynamic function. When granulation tissue invades other tendon sheaths and nerves, it can cause flexion and sensory disorders.

3. Stenosing tenosynovitis: This type of tenosynovitis often occurs in the tendon sheaths of the extensor pollicis brevis and the extensor pollicis longus, which is called radial styloid stenosing tenosynovitis. If it occurs in the flexor tendon of the thumb or finger, it is called "trigger finger". Although the synovial membrane of the tendon sheath secretes synovial fluid to lubricate the tendon sheath, repeated friction is inevitable in certain special movements, such as carpentry, weightlifting, restaurant waiters, manual operators, etc. Because the above-mentioned tendon sheath plays the role of a pulley, it has the greatest friction and is most susceptible to damage, which manifests as thickening of the tendon sheath, affecting the normal activity of the tendon. Stenosing tenosynovitis may also be the result of certain quiescent or subclinical collagen diseases.

4. Acute fibrous tenosynovitis: also known as friction crease synovitis. In this type of tenosynovitis, the lesion is located in the connective tissue surrounding the synovium, and edema, congestion, and infiltration of white blood cells and plasma cells may be seen. The disease is characterized by a soft friction sound caused by the friction of connective tissue fibrils around the edematous tendon. The most common site is the upper wrist, characterized by the radial wrist extensor brevis tendon and the belly of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis muscles, also known as crepitus tenosynovitis.
