What role do nucleotides play in milk powder

Milk powder is a kind of dairy product we usually drink, especially for infants and young children, who often need to drink formula milk, which can play a good role in improving children's immunity and normal body development. In these formula milks, nucleotides occupy a relatively important position. It can promote children's growth, improve children's immunity, and is also very effective in children's gastrointestinal health.

1. The role of five nucleotides in infant formula

1. Nutritional effect

In the past, most ordinary milk powders did not contain nucleotides. Babies who drank milk powder often suffered from congenital allergies and allergic reactions, and their ability to fight infections was also weak. The main reason was the lack of nucleotides in the milk powder. Human milk is the best nutrition for infants and young children. It contains a large amount of nucleotides. Therefore, people make nutrition for infants and young children based on the nutritional components in human milk. Adding exogenous nucleotides (NT) to milk substitutes plays an important role in maintaining the function of the immune system of infants, especially newborns, promoting intestinal maturation, liver growth and development and metabolism, and lipid metabolism.

2. Body immunity

Many researchers believe that nucleotides are essential nutrients for maintaining normal immune function of the body and can enhance the body's immunity and anti-infection ability of infants. American pediatric expert Pickering and others conducted a year-long clinical comparative study on 311 infants. The results showed that infants fed with milk powder supplemented with the same amount of nucleotides as breast milk (72 mg/L) showed a higher antibody immune response to the type E influenza vaccine. Like breastfed infants, they had stronger immunity than infants fed with milk substitutes without added nucleotides.

3. Intestinal effects

Nucleotides play an important role in intestinal nutrition and can promote the growth, development and repair of intestinal cells. Leleiko NS et al. found that dietary nucleotides play an important role in infant nutrition and intestinal maturation, affecting the development of intestinal mucosa and improving its repair function. Bamess infants fed with formula milk supplemented with nucleotides had a predominance of bifidobacteria in their feces, which was similar to that of breast-fed infants, while infants fed with formula milk without nucleotides had a predominance of enterobacteria in their feces, indicating that nucleotides can stimulate the growth of bifidobacteria in the body.

4. Liver effects

The human body actively resynthesizes nucleotides mainly in the liver. The resynthesis of nucleotides requires a lot of energy. The salvage pathway is to form new nucleotides from nucleotide fragments or exogenous nucleotides, which requires less energy. Although the liver has the ability to synthesize nucleotides from scratch, once the body is under immune stress, which leads to the activation and proliferation of T lymphocytes, the synthesis of nucleotides will increase rapidly, and the requirement for prerequisite substances involved in energy metabolism and nucleotide synthesis will also increase accordingly. Moreover, supplementing exogenous nucleotides saves energy compared to the de novo synthesis pathway, so supplementing exogenous nucleotides is quite necessary.

5. Promote metabolism

Axelsson et al.'s study confirmed that the plasma triglycerides of infants in the group using human milk and nucleic acid supplementation were higher than those in the group without supplementation, indicating that exogenous nucleotides may have an effect on the lipoproteins of newborns. Studies have shown that adding nucleotides to the diet can promote the synthesis or secretion of lipoproteins in newborns, especially premature infants.
