Are there parasites in fruits?

Parasites do not parasitize the human body, but they do parasitize some foods, fruits and plants. Parasitic infection is often caused by eating these things, so before eating, you must wash and disinfect the food repeatedly to remove the parasites remaining on the surface. There is no guarantee that fruits are free of parasites, because the skin of the fruit may be contaminated with bacteria.

Generally speaking, parasites that parasitize plants do not parasitize the human body.

Then why do people get infected with parasites by eating lettuce and fruit? The reason is that human feces are used as fertilizer in many places in my country, and the infected insect eggs in the feces contaminate vegetables and fruits, which is a common transmission route. Therefore, we must wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly when we eat them raw.

I will briefly introduce some common parasitic infection routes and clinical manifestations or pathogens in clinical practice. I hope it will be useful to you.

Ascaris is the most common parasite in the human digestive tract, and the adult worms live in the small intestine. The eggs produced after mating are excreted from the body with feces and develop in a suitable environment (about 12-17 days) to become infectious eggs. People become infected by accidentally ingesting food or water contaminated with infective Ascaris eggs.

Causes:

The larvae cause disease, mainly ascariasis asthma and ascariasis pneumonia. The main symptoms of patients are cough, chest tightness, itchy throat, dry cough, asthma or urticaria, etc., occasionally accompanied by fever, blood in sputum and allergic dermatitis.

Adult disease: 1. Adults parasitize in the jejunum, steal nutrients from the host and cause malnutrition. The patient experienced vomiting, abdominal pain, and bloating. Patients often experience loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and intermittent abdominal pain, often around the navel. Child patients often have neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as convulsions, night terrors, bruxism, and occasionally pica. 2Symptoms such as urticaria, skin itching, conjunctivitis and toxic encephalopathy may occur. 3. Complications: bile duct bleeding, liver abscess, cholelithiasis, etc. 98% of patients had abdominal pain.

Toxoplasma gondii can infect humans and many animals, causing the zoonotic disease toxoplasmosis. Cats are the final and intermediate hosts of Toxoplasma gondii and can only complete asexual reproduction in the bodies of humans or other animals.

Infection route: Oocysts in cat feces or cysts or pseudocysts in animal meat are swallowed by humans and enter the body, and spread to organs and tissues throughout the body, such as the brain, lymph nodes, liver, heart, lungs, muscles, etc.

Clinical manifestations: Toxoplasma infection is usually asymptomatic, but congenital infection and immunodeficiency often cause severe toxoplasmic encephalopathy.

Congenital toxoplasmosis: Pregnant women infected with Toxoplasma gondii can transmit Toxoplasma gondii to the fetus through the placental bloodstream. It can cause miscarriage, premature birth, fetal deformity or stillbirth.

Acquired toxoplasmosis: Lymph node enlargement, mostly in the submandibular and posterior cervical lymph nodes. Toxoplasma often accumulates in the brain and eyes, causing damage to the central nervous system, such as encephalitis, meningoencephalitis, epilepsy and mental disorders. Toxoplasma eye disease is most common in retinal choroiditis, and in adults it manifests as a sudden decrease in vision.
