What are the symptoms of elevated blood creatinine

Blood creatinine is elevated, which means that the creatinine value is higher than the normal value. Creatinine includes urine creatinine and blood creatinine, and blood creatinine is of great significance to kidney function. If it is high, there may be certain problems with kidney function, which often leads to renal insufficiency, renal failure, etc. Patients often have symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating, which may cause low back pain, hematuria, etc.

Symptoms

Symptoms of high creatinine levels include :

1. Edema often starts from the eyelids (some patients start from the lower limbs), and severe cases may spread to the whole body and even cause pleural effusion and ascites.

2. Hypertension is one of the manifestations of high creatinine levels.

3. Frequent urination (many times), urgency (inability to hold urine), and pain in urination (pain in the lower abdomen and urethra during urination).

4. Most low back pains are dull pains, but surgical diseases may cause severe colic.

5. Hematuria means that there are blood cells in the urine, or the test shows positive occult blood (with a plus sign).

6. Polyuria refers to urine output exceeding 2500 ml per day and night.

7. Oliguria or anuria Less than 400 ml per day and night is called oliguria, and less than 100 ml is called anuria.

8. Excessive foam in the urine may be a sign of increased urine protein. A positive urine protein test result is reliable evidence of increased urine protein.

Causes of illness

Creatinine is a product of human muscle metabolism. In human muscles, creatine is mainly converted into creatinine through irreversible non-enzymatic dehydration reaction, then released into the blood and excreted in urine. Therefore, the reason why blood creatinine is high is closely related to the total amount of muscle in the body and is not easily affected by diet. Creatinine is a small molecule that can be filtered through the glomerulus and is rarely reabsorbed in the renal tubules. Almost all of the creatinine produced in the body daily is excreted in the urine and is generally not affected by urine volume.

Patient diet

Salt restriction : Generally speaking, although patients in the compensatory and azotemia stages of renal insufficiency have high blood creatinine and begin to show various mild clinical symptoms, due to moderate pathological damage, salt intake can be controlled depending on the presence or absence of hypertension and edema, and a low-salt or salt-free diet can be given.

Protein supply : Because patients in the later stage develop azotemia and renal insufficiency, in order to control the further deterioration of renal function, protein intake should be controlled and a diet rich in high-quality protein should be selected.

Vitamin intake : Patients with renal failure and high blood creatinine should choose foods rich in vitamin A, vitamin B2, and vitamin C. If the renal insufficiency only causes renal failure with high blood creatinine but no oliguria or edema, the patient does not need to stop eating salt and water and should maintain a low-salt diet. If there is severe edema, hypertension or even heart failure, salt restriction should be strictly limited.
