What are the symptoms and treatment of chickenpox

In recent years, the incidence of chickenpox has been well controlled. This is mainly because children are generally required to receive vaccinations to prevent chickenpox. The emergence of vaccines has greatly reduced the incidence of chickenpox. However, people with special physical conditions may have antibodies to the vaccine, so they may still be infected by the virus and develop chickenpox. In the following article, the editor will give you a detailed introduction to the treatment methods and clinical manifestations of chickenpox.

Chickenpox is a respiratory infectious disease caused by varicella-zoster virus infection. The clinical characteristics are the simultaneous presence of three skin lesions: papules, herpes and crusts. Chickenpox is highly contagious and occurs more frequently in winter and spring. After infection, you can gain lasting immunity. The most common infection in adults is herpes zoster.

Clinical manifestations of varicella

The incubation period is about 10 to 21 days.

1. Prodromal period: about 1-2 days, with mild fever (body temperature 37.5~38.5℃), lethargy, decreased appetite, etc. Most children do not have this symptom.

2. Rash stage: The rash is mostly seen on the chest and back, and later on the limbs, with a centripetal distribution. It initially appears as small red maculopapules, which quickly turn into herpes. The blisters are translucent, about the size of mung beans, and may be surrounded by a red halo, which may be accompanied by itching. The scab will form after 1-3 days of drying. No scar is left after the scab falls off. Because the rash appears in batches, three types of skin lesions, maculopapular rash, herpes and crusts, can be seen coexisting clinically.

Varicella Diagnosis

1. History of contact with chickenpox 2 to 3 weeks ago.

2: There is a typical rash.

3. The total white blood cell count is low or normal.
