What are the functions and indications of amoxicillin clavulanate potassium

Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium is a drug used to treat lower respiratory tract infections. It has a good therapeutic effect on sinusitis and otitis media. It has a good killing effect on Escherichia coli, Moraxella catarrhalis, etc. It is a commonly used antibacterial drug for the treatment of mild to moderate infections. This drug is a compound preparation, and its main ingredients are amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium. At the same time, it can play a good therapeutic role in urinary system infections, skin and soft tissue infections. You should be aware of some precautions during treatment.

Indications

This product is suitable for various infections caused by sensitive bacteria, such as:

1. Upper respiratory tract infection: sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, etc.

2. Lower respiratory tract infections: acute bronchitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess and combined bronchial infections, etc.

3. Urinary tract infection: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, Neisseria gonorrhoeae urinary tract infection and chancroid, etc.

4. Skin and soft tissue infections: furuncle, abscess, cellulitis, wound infection, intra-abdominal sepsis, etc.

5. Other infections: otitis media, osteomyelitis, sepsis, peritonitis and postoperative infection, etc.

Dosing Instructions

See Amoxicillin Sodium. Children under 40kg should not use tablets but suspensions. The clavulanic acid content in the 375mg and 625mg tablets is the same, both 125mg, so one tablet of the latter is not equal to two tablets of the former.

When this product is taken orally, eating does not affect its absorption, and taking it with food can reduce gastrointestinal reactions.

For patients with renal insufficiency whose serum creatinine clearance is 10-30 ml/min or 2-9 ml/min, the dosing interval should be adjusted to once every 12 hours or once every 24 hours, respectively.

Dosage

1. Adults: Pneumonia and other moderately severe infections: Take 625 mg (including 500 mg amoxicillin) orally once every 8 hours for 7 to 10 days. Common infections: 375 mg (including 250 mg amoxicillin) once, once every 8 hours, for 7 to 10 days.

2. Children: ① Newborns and infants under 3 months old: calculated according to amoxicillin, 15 mg/kg every 12 hours; ② Dosage for children under 40 kg: calculated according to amoxicillin, 25 mg/kg every 12 hours or 20 mg/kg every 8 hours for general infections, 45 mg/kg every 12 hours for more serious infections, or 40 mg/kg every 8 hours, depending on the severity of the disease. The course of treatment is 7 to 10 days; for other infections, the dose is halved. ③Children weighing more than 40 kg can be given the adult dose.

3. Patients with impaired renal function: No dose reduction is required when creatinine clearance is >30 ml/min; for patients with creatinine clearance of 10-30 ml/min, use 250-500 mg of amoxicillin every 12 hours; for patients with creatinine clearance <10 ml/min, use 250-500 mg of amoxicillin every 24 hours.

4. Hemodialysis patients: Depending on the severity of the disease, use 250-500 mg of amoxicillin every 24 hours, with an additional dose during and at the end of hemodialysis.

Precautions

Patients should be careful when taking this medicine. If they are allergic to cephalosporins, they should not use it. In addition, when taking this type of medicine, it should not be cross-used with other penicillins. If an allergic reaction occurs, the drug should be stopped immediately and appropriate measures should be taken for treatment. For patients with impaired renal function, they must follow the doctor's advice on medication.
