What causes dark circles?

Dark circles are a common problem nowadays. Dark circles make people look tired and listless. Dark circles come and go quickly, so many people don’t pay much attention to them. Many people think that dark circles are caused by lack of sleep, so they just need to get more sleep. However, the causes of dark circles may be related to genetics, hormone deposition, skin aging, which leads to shadows of eye bags, and lack of nutrition. Therefore, for people with dark circles, it is necessary to find the cause before treatment. Don’t always think that it is caused by lack of rest, and do not rule out the problem of disease that leads to the onset of dark circles.

The causes of dark circles include the following:

(1) Congenital or acquired increase in eyelid pigmentation; the patient's orbicularis oculi muscle is congenitally thicker, or the pigment of the eye skin is congenitally darker and more abundant than the skin pigmentation of adjacent parts, so the eyes appear dark grey.

(2) Aging eyelids cause loosening and wrinkling of the skin, resulting in a darker complexion.

(3) Eye bags appear and cause shadows.

(iv) The inner lower side of the eye socket is sunken to form a tear trough (naso-jugal groove) which in turn creates a shadow.

(V) Stagnation of blood flow in the eyelid veins causes the skin and eyes to darken.

(6) Abnormal diet and lack of iron.

(7) Lack of sleep due to excessive thinking or staying up late.

(8) Natural dark circles: Some people are born with darker skin around their eyes, usually more common in white people. This type of dark circles is difficult to lighten, so it is recommended to use concealer cream for better results.

9. Pigmentation: Dark circles are caused by pigmentation. In fact, the cause of dark circles is the penetration of pigment particles. If you always wear eyeliner and mascara and never remove your makeup thoroughly, your dark circles may be caused by pigmentation. You can use more eye creams containing vitamin A and vitamin C (such as ZOˊCHY Eye Essence). It can effectively relieve eye fatigue, dredge the choroid and eye blood circulation, continuously moisturize the skin and revitalize the eyes, promote the growth of the eye collagen fiber layer, strengthen elastic fibers, and improve dark circles, eye bags, crow's feet and other conditions.

(10) Patients with allergic rhinitis: Patients with allergic rhinitis may also suffer from dark circles under their eyes.

(11) From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, another cause of dark circles under the eyes is kidney deficiency. Both kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency can cause dark circles under the eyes. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, most dark circles are caused by liver and kidney deficiency. After liver and kidney deficiency, kidney essence cannot nourish liver blood, and "the liver opens up to the eyes", and eventually due to the loss of essence and blood, dark circles are formed on the eyes. Modern research has also confirmed that dark circles are caused by staying up late, emotional instability, eye fatigue and aging, which lead to slow blood flow in the veins, insufficient oxygen supply to the red blood cells in the eye skin, excessive accumulation of carbon dioxide and metabolic waste in the veins, causing chronic hypoxia, darker blood and stagnation, and eye pigmentation. This is consistent with the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.

12. Blood-induced dark circles: Lack of sleep, excessive stress, drinking, smoking, rhinitis, etc. can cause excessive carbon dioxide levels in the eye blood, leading to the formation of dark circles.

13. Pigmented dark circles: Due to the differences in races, some races secrete more melanin. If they are exposed to the sun frequently, it is easy for it to react with ultraviolet rays in the atmosphere, causing pigmentation and forming dark circles.

(14) When a child is born with congenital dark circles under the eyes , the genes are inherited from the parents. In many cases, as long as one of the parents inherits the dark circles, the next generation will also be likely to be affected.
