What is the best age for myopia surgery

What is the best age for myopia surgery

Nowadays, many parents often do not pay attention to their children's health. Many children use electronic products for a long time and are exposed to a lot of radiation, which leads to myopia. We can also see that most of the children in primary schools now wear glasses. Wearing glasses will not only affect the appearance, but also cause problems in the baby's future vision development. Many parents will take their children for early surgery or use medication-assisted treatment. But in fact, when doing myopia surgery, it is necessary to control the age between 18 and 50 years old. It is best to have surgery at this age. Do not have surgery early because they have to go through puberty development. If surgery is performed too early, it may cause complications.

Not suitable for the crowd

Under 18 years old

The surgery is not suitable for patients under 18 years old and requires the patient's refractive state to be stable. Refractive status includes refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Since young people under the age of 18 are in the period of physical growth and their eye refractive power is unstable, if they undergo surgery blindly, their vision is likely to deteriorate after one or two years. The best age for surgery is between 25 and 30 years old.

Congenital eye disease

Laser myopia surgery requires the cornea to have a certain thickness, which varies from person to person. Some people cannot undergo laser surgery due to congenital deficiencies.

Presbyopia is not suitable for surgery

Presbyopia is caused by the decline of regulatory ability due to aging. Even if it is temporarily cured, it will recur due to aging.

People who do not engage in water sports should not undergo surgery.

Therefore, excimer laser surgery to treat myopia must meet the following conditions: first, the age must be between 18 and 50 years old; second, the myopia degree must be stable for more than two years; third, there must be no other serious eye disease or history of eye surgery; fourth, there must be no diabetes, collagen disease, or scar-prone physique.

Surgery indications

① The patient requests to remove the spectacles.

② Aged 18 or above (preferably 20 years old).

③ The refractive power has been stable in the past two years.

④ Correction refractive power range: Myopia should not exceed 1500 degrees, astigmatism should not exceed 600 degrees, and hyperopia should not exceed 600 degrees.

⑤ Anisometropia.

⑥ For those who currently wear corneal contact lenses: soft lenses should be discontinued for more than 2 weeks, hard lenses should be discontinued for more than 3 weeks, and OK lenses should be discontinued for more than 1-3 months.

⑦ Corneal thickness is greater than 450 um (depending on the refractive state).

⑧ No active eye diseases, etc.
