How to treat and care for perioral herpes?

Perioral herpes is also known as oral simplex herpes. Infants and young children are easily threatened by this virus, so timely treatment is necessary. There are many treatment methods. First, local medication should be used. Local ointments, wet compresses or mouthwashes can be used for treatment. If the condition is more serious, systemic treatment such as oral medications should be used. In addition, you should get enough rest and eat high-energy and high-nutrition food.

1. Local treatment methods

Oral herpes simplex can be treated with anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, but not hormonal drugs.

1. Topical ointments include 1% chloramphenicol glycerol, neomycin or bacitracin or boric acid ointment, 1% gentian violet solution, 0.1% herpes eye drops, etc.

2. Apply wet compress with 0.1% ethacridine lactate (Rivanol) solution and 0.025% to 0.05% zinc sulfate solution.

3. If the pain is severe, you can gargle with 1% to 2% procaine or 0.5% to 1% dyclonine solution to relieve the pain.

4. Laser irradiation can relieve itching, relieve pain, promote the absorption of blister fluid and scab formation.

2. Systemic treatment methods

1. Supportive therapy: proper rest and symptomatic treatment. Give high-energy, easily digestible, nutritious liquid or soft food. Take a multivitamin by mouth. If necessary, 5% to 10% glucose solution can be injected intravenously.

2. For systemic medication, you can take Viroguanide (morphine biguanide), 0.2g per tablet, 1 to 2 tablets each time, 3 times a day. Take isatis root tablets or granules orally, stomatitis granules, etc.

For patients with severe oral herpes simplex, drugs such as levamisole, polyinosin, and interferon can be used to treat the disease.

3. Treatment methods of traditional Chinese medicine

The treatment of oral herpes simplex can also be based on syndrome differentiation by using Chinese medicine such as Baihu Decoction.

Care methods:

1. Reasonable nutrition: Food should be as diverse as possible, with a balanced combination of coarse and fine grains. Eat more beans and mushrooms.

2. Rich in nutrition: Eat more nutritious, easy to absorb and digest foods, and eat more high-protein, multi-vitamin, and low-animal fat foods.

3. Fresh and light diet: Do not eat stale, spoiled or irritating food; it is recommended to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C; choose light-tasting, easily digestible food to keep bowel movements smooth; you can drink more yogurt, mushroom soup, kelp soup, and yellow croaker soup.
