The formation of diabetes is not accidental. It is related to certain lifestyle habits, eating habits, and genetics. Some people with diabetes also suffer from high blood pressure. The onset of diabetes is not obvious in the early stages, but in the middle and late stages, there will be decreased vision and skin ulcers. Severe diabetic patients may also require amputation. Therefore, prevention of diabetes must start with diet. Type 1 diabetes: This type of diabetes patients accounts for 5% to 10% of the total number. The age of onset is mostly under 30 years old, and the disease is less common in adults and the elderly. Patients with type 1 diabetes need to rely on insulin injections to survive, otherwise they will suffer from ketoacidosis, which may be life-threatening if not treated in time. Patients with type 1 diabetes have obvious symptoms of diabetes when they develop the disease. They are prone to ketosis and sudden ketoacidosis. In severe cases, they may fall into a coma, or lose 5 to 10 kg in weight within a few days or more than 10 days. They are sensitive to insulin and have a thin body. However, a small number of patients have a slow onset of the disease, and some patients have non-insulin-dependent diabetes at the onset of the disease, which gradually turns into insulin-dependent diabetes. Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent) This type of diabetes patients accounts for 80% to 90% of the total. Most cases occur after the age of 35, with a slow and hidden onset; some patients are diagnosed during health examinations. Most of them are overweight or obese. This type of diabetes often occurs in adults, especially in the elderly, but it may also occur in childhood and usually does not require insulin treatment. Other special types and gestational diabetes The causes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes are not very clear, we call it primary diabetes; other special types of diabetes generally have special causes, such as insulin synthesis disorders caused by pancreatic disease, or taking drugs that can increase blood sugar at the same time, or other endocrine reasons such as excessive secretion of hormones that counteract insulin, long-term malnutrition, low protein intake, etc.; gestational diabetes is a special type of diabetes diagnosed in women during pregnancy, which refers to diabetes developed by women during pregnancy. Clinical data show that 2%-3% of women may develop diabetes during pregnancy, and nearly 35% of pregnant women will show signs of gestational diabetes, and these women may develop type 2 diabetes. Secondary diabetes Secondary diabetes refers to a type of diabetes with a clear cause, such as pancreatectomy, acute and chronic pancreatitis, hypercortisolism, acromegaly, etc. In addition, long-term use of certain medications can also cause diabetes, such as prednisone, hydrochlorothiazide, etc. Secondary diabetes is much less common than primary diabetes. When we generally refer to diabetes, unless otherwise specified, we are generally referring to primary diabetes. |
