What are the side effects of taking antibiotics for a long time

Antibiotics are a common anti-inflammatory and bactericidal drug. If used properly, they can cure diseases. However, long-term abuse of antibiotics can cause great harm to the body. There are many types of antibiotics, such as gentamicin, which can easily cause deafness. Aminoglycoside antibiotics are an important cause of kidney disease. In addition, some antibiotics can have adverse effects on liver function and intestinal health.

1. Ototoxic antibiotics:

Neomycin, streptomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin, etc. are all ototoxic antibiotics, among which neomycin is the most toxic. Relevant data show that 58% of deaf children under the age of 7 are caused by the abuse of ototoxic antibiotics. Once this type of deafness occurs, it is very difficult to cure.

2. Drug-induced nephropathy in children:

Antibiotics such as aminoglycoside antibiotics, cefazolin and co-trimoxazole are very likely to cause drug-induced nephropathy in children, so you must be careful when using them.

3. Antibiotics that are harmful to the liver:

Erythromycin, xanthines, tetracycline, rifampicin, etc. can cause jaundice, stem cell damage, and in severe cases, acute liver necrosis.

4. Gastrointestinal reactions:

Most antibacterial drugs may cause gastrointestinal reactions to varying degrees. Such as nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

Allergic reaction: There are many dangers in using antibiotics. Some people will experience allergic reactions after using them, which are mainly manifested as drug rash, drug fever, urticaria, and severe reactions can also cause exfoliative dermatitis and shock.

5. Drug resistance:

Antibiotics have the ability to fight bacteria, but they can also cause bacteria to develop drug resistance, which is what we often call drug dependence. Children always have bacteria in their bodies. When antibiotics kill a large number of bacteria that have no resistance, the few bacteria that have resistance have space to multiply.

Large-scale use of advanced and broad-spectrum antibiotics can cause an imbalance in the body's flora, allowing pathogens to take advantage of the situation and invade. However, everyone should also be careful not to stop taking the medicine too early for fear of developing drug resistance, as this will cause bacteria with stronger drug resistance to multiply again. When using antibiotics, you must pay attention to the method and dosage.
