Correct posture for meditation

Correct posture for meditation

With the development of society, more and more people pay attention to health preservation. Many people not only eat some health-preserving foods in their daily lives, but also choose some health-preserving methods to maintain their bodies. At that time, meditation was a health-preserving method that many people liked to adopt. Through meditation, they can achieve a state of peace of mind. So for some people who are not familiar with meditation, what should be the correct posture for meditation?

Meditation is a good way to maintain health. Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, and Yoga all have methods of meditation and practice. Nowadays, sitting meditation has also become a "trend". As the saying goes, "If you want to do your work well, you must first sharpen your tools." Can you just sit there casually and meditate? Of course not. If the sitting posture is incorrect, it will not only fail to have a health-preserving effect, but will cause physical and mental harm.

head.

Keep your neck upright, head straight, and jaw slightly retracted (the chin should be slightly closer to the Adam's apple, just a little bit is enough). Keep your lips slightly closed naturally, and relax your teeth. Don't try to close or bite your upper and lower teeth. Let your tongue stretch out naturally in your mouth.

Eyes.

According to the ancient method, you should close your eyes slightly and look down and forward at a point 3 meters away from you. However, modern people use their eyes much more frequently than ancient people, so based on my experience, it is recommended to sit quietly with your eyes closed.

Body spine.

The body must be straight, the spine should be upright and relaxed, and the chest should not be hunched or the back should not be arched. The vertebrae should be stacked like abacus beads. It cannot lean to the left or right, nor bend forward or backward. The spine of the body should be upright but relaxed, and should not be intentionally "stretched" up or down.

Both hands.

Your hands can be placed anywhere you like, flat on your knees or in front of you. Here, the author suggests making the "Samadhi Seal" (left hand below, right hand above, thumbs touching each other) in front of your body as shown in the picture.

Hips.

For beginners who have just started meditation or those who do not have a certain level of meditation skills, the author reminds them to remember to place a 6 to 10 cm thick cushion under their buttocks. Of course, it depends on personal circumstances. It should not be too thick or too thin, as long as it feels comfortable.

Precautions

When you first start meditating, the time should not be too long. You can start with 3 or 5 minutes. Once you have a certain foundation, you can gradually increase the time.

Pay attention to wind protection and keep warm. It is recommended to cover your legs with a thin blanket.
