Is there a high chance of death from gastric cancer?

Gastric cancer is one of the common malignant tumors in my country, and its incidence rate ranks first among all types of tumors in my country. About 170,000 people die from gastric cancer every year, which is almost 1/4 of all deaths from malignant tumors. In addition, there are more than 20,000 new gastric cancer patients every year. Is the probability of death from gastric cancer high? Let's take a closer look at this issue.

Gastric cancer is indeed a disease that seriously threatens people's health. Gastric cancer can occur at any age, but it is more common in people aged 40 to 60, with men outnumbering women by about 2:1. The cause of the disease is unknown, and it may be related to a variety of factors, such as lifestyle, diet, environmental factors, genetic quality, mental factors, etc. It is also related to chronic gastritis, gastric polyps, gastric mucosal dysplasia and intestinal metaplasia, residual stomach after surgery, and long-term Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. Gastric cancer can occur in any part of the stomach, but it is more common in the gastric antrum, especially on the lesser curvature of the stomach. According to the depth of infiltration of cancer tissue, it is divided into early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer (middle and late gastric cancer). The early symptoms of gastric cancer are often not obvious, such as elusive upper abdominal discomfort, dull pain, belching, heartburn, loss of appetite, mild anemia, etc., which are partially similar to the symptoms of gastric and duodenal ulcers or chronic gastritis.

In recent years, the incidence of gastric cancer has been increasing, and many patients have died from the disease, causing great distress to patients. People are paying more and more attention to what causes gastric cancer and are doing their best to detect symptoms in the early stages of the disease to better prevent the disease.
