What's wrong with eyelid swelling

Eyelid edema is what people call eyelid edema. When this happens, it is related to many factors. If it is not caused by disease factors, it can usually be corrected through lifestyle adjustments. Moreover, eyelid edema greatly affects appearance, so it must be treated in a timely manner and the cause must be identified and the appropriate remedy must be prescribed. So what is eyelid edema?

1. Slight eyelid swelling

It is usually caused by the accumulation of body fluids in the eyes while sleeping. It may be caused by drinking too much water before going to bed, poor sleep, or incorrect sleeping posture. It will usually disappear automatically around 10 o'clock in the morning, that is, the accumulated fluid can be discharged after you move a little.

2. Poor blood circulation

A major reason for swollen eyelids is poor blood circulation and poor metabolic capacity, which prevents the body from excreting waste water in time, causing water to be retained in the capillaries and causing edema.

3. Kidney function

Another cause of eye swelling is related to kidney function problems, which manifests as a large number of red and white blood cells and proteins in the urine. It may also be caused by neurogenic edema and urinary tract infection.

4. Abnormal thyroid function

Hypothyroidism can also cause eyelid edema, but patients with hypothyroidism will also experience leg edema along with facial edema, as well as fatigue and fear of cold. At this time, five thyroid function tests and thyroid color ultrasound examination can be performed to diagnose and exclude the disease.

5. Heart failure

Swollen eyelids are also a sign of heart failure, which is common in the elderly. In addition, if there is sudden and acute bilateral eyelid swelling and itching, accompanied by cough, itchy throat, and chest tightness, you should be alert to the possibility of drug allergy and require emergency treatment.

6. Conditioning

Before going to bed, press lightly on the center of the eye bag with your ring finger 10 times every night to relieve eye puffiness. Use some eye cream on time and properly to help increase the elasticity and firmness of the eye skin and maintain the moisture balance of the skin around the eyes. Eat more fish, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, animal liver, beans and other foods rich in vitamin A and vitamin B2 that are beneficial to eye protection.
