Both fingernails and toenails can be affected, but the incidence of toenails is higher. Director Du Xueqin said that onychomycosis lesions begin at the distal end, lateral edge or nail fold of the nail, and manifest as abnormal nail color and shape. The diseased nail plate loses its luster, becomes brittle, broken and falls off over time, and is mostly grayish white.
