What are the precautions for measuring blood sugar

After middle age, various body function indicators will decline. If you don't pay attention to health care, like to eat greasy food such as fish and meat, and do less exercise. If this continues for a long time, the chance of this group of people developing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases will greatly increase. If you often eat too much at dinner, it will stimulate the secretion of insulin and you may develop diabetes. Measuring blood sugar is a means of preventing diabetes. Let’s see what are the precautions?

Things to note when measuring blood sugar:

1. Before measuring blood sugar, be sure to wash your hands first, otherwise the substances on your hands may affect the accuracy of the test results.

2. Measuring blood sugar is a traumatic procedure, so the finger must be disinfected before pricking it. Alcohol can be used for disinfection, but iodine solution is not recommended. After disinfecting your fingers, be sure to wait for the alcohol to evaporate and dry before drawing blood.

3. The blood collection sites should be rotated alternately. Do not puncture one place for a long time to avoid the formation of scars. Blood collection on the side of the finger is less painful and the blood volume is sufficient.

4. Insufficient blood volume, expired blood glucose test strips, alcohol not drying after finger disinfection, and failure to adjust the blood glucose meter code to the same as the test strips will affect the accuracy of the test.

5. The storage of test strips is also critical. Usually, test strips need to be stored in a cool, dry place away from light. Sunlight or humid environment may cause the effective chemical components contained in the test strips to deteriorate. Be sure to check the shelf life before using the test strips. Expired test strips will also make the blood sugar test results inaccurate.

6. Some blood glucose meters require adjustment of the displayed code before use to make it consistent with the code on the test strip box before testing can begin. Each instrument has its own corresponding test strips. Incompatible test strips and instruments cannot be used interchangeably.

7. Diabetics need to read the operating instructions carefully before measuring their blood sugar. Inaccurate test results due to improper operation often occur.

8. All blood glucose meters should have after-sales service. You should regularly go to the store where you purchased it or the place designated by the manufacturer to calibrate the blood glucose meter to ensure its accuracy. You can also go to the hospital and compare the results with blood tests to know its accuracy.
