Can essential oils be added to a humidifier?

Can essential oils be added to a humidifier?

We all know that the working principle of a humidifier is steam humidification. It heats the water in the water tank, then turns it into steam and sprays it out, so as to achieve the purpose of moistening the air. The water tank of the humidifier must be filled with pure water, which will cause less air pollution, reduce the pollution inhaled into the human respiratory tract, and reduce the harm to the human body. So, can essential oils be added to the humidifier?

1. Do not add essential oils to the humidifier

It is wrong to add essential oils to a humidifier, which is misleading in the industry. Essential oils are generally stored in glass or ceramic containers, not in plastic bottles. First, essential oils are corrosive to plastics. Second, essential oils in a humidifier will contaminate the humidifier water tank, making it difficult to clean. The volatile oils in the essential oils cannot function properly.

2. What are the hazards of adding essential oils to a humidifier?

Essential oils contain a variety of fragrances, preservatives and other additives. These chemical reagents enter the humidifier along with the essential oils and enter the air after being atomized. The humidifier will molecularize the chemical components in the essential oils, making it easier for the human body to inhale these chemicals. Doing so for a long time will irritate the epithelial cells of the lungs and bronchial tubes, causing damage to the cells and causing diseases of varying degrees. People with allergies in particular are prone to problems such as difficulty breathing.

3. How to add essential oils

It is not advisable to add essential oils to a humidifier, but if you want to purify the air and calm your mind, and hope to add a little essential oil, you can drop a small amount of essential oil on a cotton ball and place it at the mist outlet. In this way, the essential oil will be diffused around with the mist, fully exerting its efficacy, and will not affect the operation and hygiene of the humidifier.

4. What should be added to the humidifier?

It is not advisable to add disinfectants, vinegar, perfume, essential oils and other substances containing chemical ingredients into the humidifier. Not only will this not have the effect you want, it will also threaten human health.

Just add purified water or boiled water into the humidifier. Do not add tap water to avoid producing white powder, which will affect the air quality and cause respiratory discomfort.
